Breakfast at IKEA Restaurant Ikano Malaysia

There is something more than furniture in IKEA at Ikano Power Centre in Malaysia, the IKEA restaurant. When they moved from One Utama years ago, one of the highlights of IKEA restaurant is their Swedish style meatballs and their delicious local delicacy curry puffs. I believe many will agree with me on that.  The restaurant has gone thru transformation in years and it is HALAL certified now.

Recently, I revisited the IKEA restaurant for breakfast and things have definitely changed. The IKEA restaurant is a HALAL certified restaurant and the breakfast is packed. It has gain popularity through the years and it is a favourite breakfast place for families.

The queue is long and there are more choices on the breakfast menu. There is more local food to choose from and to be fair, the price is very reasonable. Maybe, that’s why it is always packed. The restaurant is self service and it is baby friendly. They have dozens of the popular IKEA baby chairs. The restaurant looks like a market as it is always busy.

After minutes of queuing up and fast hands from the friendly waiters, I finally ordered my breakfast. I had “nasi putih with ayam rendang, papadom and acar”, meatballs, mushroom soup, fried spring rolls and coffee. The mushroom is so diluted and it shouldn’t be served at all!

The fried spring rolls definitely a crowd puller as it is freshly rolled out from the deep fryer.

The “nasi putih with ayam rendang, papadom and acar” is common Malaysian delight. The ayam rendang or rendang chicken is enjoyable and there is nothing to shout about.

The Swedish meatballs are the highlight of the restaurant. I know friends who visit IKEA for the meatballs in the past. However, it didn’t fare as good as it used to be. Sadly, it wasn’t as tasty as before and it wasn’t that hot too. Did they pre-cook the meatballs and left it on the tray? Or did they change the recipe? It didn’t impress me like it used to be to be frank.

No matter how, the crowd is still there and the queue is still long and the restaurant is still looks like a market.
