YEZI Premium Specialty Steamboat at The Roof Review

It is no secret that Malaysian Chinese love steamboat or hotpot. You can find many steamboat restaurants packed with customers during dinner time especially weekends.  There are many steamboat restaurants out there with

Where are the best steamboat restaurants in Klang Valley? The truth is only a few restaurants that worth a mention while the rest are just mediocre.  Why mediocre? Most of the steamboat restaurants offer the same frozen food especially the various types of meat/seafood balls while the difference is usually the broth, the fresh meat and the dipping sauces. Maybe it is the cost but when cost is not the factor, where is the best place for steamboat? How about YEZI?

YEZI is located at The Roof, One Avenue and it is a premium specialty steamboat restaurant specialising in coconut-based broths and freshly prepared dishes served to the table. The name YEZI means coconut in “mandarin” and it is the first of its kind concept steamboat in the country that uses coconut-based broth and this concept was inspired from a famous Chinese steamboat restaurant in Shenzhen.

You will be amazed by the décor of YEZI. The restaurant offers a very classy Chinese ambience with soothing soft Chinese music as background. With high ceiling and warm golden lighting, you will find comfort in YEZI with top notch service from highly trained staffs. YEZI offers a proper dining service and you can also book their VIP rooms for privacy. You can’t find any classier steamboat restaurant than this in Klang Valley.

Broth is the key component in steamboat. YEZI offers five signature broths and they are The Original YEZI Broth, Imperial Canton Broth, Aromatic Taiwanese Beef Spice Broth, Fragrant Shao Xing Wine Seafood Broth and Wild Forest Truffle Mushroom Broth.  These five broths are unique and not the usual broths that are commonly available in other steamboat restaurants.

I was spoilt with choices but after with the recommendation by the waitress, I ordered the Imperial Canton Broth.

The Imperial Canton Broth comes with a whole chicken, cabbages and bacon. As simple as it sounds, the broth offers a fragrant and scent of the sweetness of the cabbage and chicken with the hints of saltiness of the bacon. There is no MSG in this broth.

Like the broth, the dipping sauce is also a plays a key role in steamboat. For that, you should try the YEZI  Special Homemade Dipping Sauce. It is comprised of the chili, sand ginger and Calamansi lime (Calamondin Lime). There is also a guide on how you should create your own dipping sauce.

While waiting for the broth to get ready, I ordered some of the hot dish.

Szechuan Fried Century Eggs (RM15).

Szechuan Fried Century Eggs is definitely a must try dish. For a person who dislikes century eggs, I find their Szechuan Fried Century Eggs addictive. The soft texture century eggs are deep fried and stir fried with dried chillies, scallions and crushed peanuts. The taste is beautifully balanced and I loved the different texture of this dish.

The textural dish has wobbly and moreish century eggs whipped up with lots of dried chilies, scallions and crushed peanuts.

Seafood Fried Rice (RM 26)

YEZI’s version of seafood fried rice comes with dices of seafood, egg and scallions. I enjoyed the fried rice and you can definitely taste the “wok hei” (the heat of the wok) within this gorgeous plate of fried rice.

The other beauty of dining in YEZI is they make their own homemade balls. Everything you can find here is freshly made with their own recipe.

YEZI Homemade Balls

From left; Chicken Balls with Mushroom (RM12), Squid Balls (RM 16), Black Pepper Cheese Balls (RM 16), Fried Lobster Salad Balls (RM 13) and Black Truffle Balls (RM 24). The top with the stringe is their Fish and Tobiko Paste Noodle (RM 18).

Fish and Tobiko Paste Noodle (RM 18).

Fish and Tobiko Paste Noodle should be awarded as the best invention for meat paste noodle. It is not just clever but convenient too. On top of the cool design, the fish and tobiko (fish roe) paste noodle is tasty and delicious.

Black Truffle Balls (RM 24)

Black Truffle Balls is definitely top of my list in YEZI. Created with black truffle, this is fragrant and memorable. It seems to be pricey but this is black truffles, worth every penny.

Shaoxing Pork Dumplings (RM 12)

Shaoxing Pork Dumplings comes with generous amount of pork and it literally swims around the broth. This is definitely for dumpling lovers and do remember to check out their menu as they have four different types of dumplings available.

Homemade Fragrant Coconut Ice Cream (RM 10)

For dessert, the Homemade Fragrant Coconut Ice Cream is their signature ice cream. Well, the taste is rich in coconut flavour but if you need to taste something unique, you should try their other coconut desserts.

Coconut with Avocado (RM 20)

Coconut ice cream with avocado pudding is definitely a must order dessert in YEZI. The avocado pudding is soft in texture and yet flavourful compliments well with the homemade coconut ice cream and completed with rich coconut milk.
