There are many hints that AirAsiaX will be flying back to New Zealand. The hiring of local staffs in Auckland as well as Instagram posts from a few months ago.
It is official AirAsia X is returning to New Zealand with flights from Kuala Lumpur to Auckland via Gold Coast from March according to http://www.stuff.co.nz/business/industries/75771780/airasia-resuming-flights-to-new-zealand
We tried to log on the AirAsia website and it is still unable to book the tickets to Auckland yet but this means it will be direct competition to Malaysia Airlines. Malaysia Airlines provide direct flight while AirAsia X will need one stop over in Gold Coast, Australia. We are unsure whether we can extend the stop over in Gold Coast so you can actually visit Gold Coast too.
There are no indications for promotional price for Kuala Lumpur to Auckland flight but it will be cheap (we hope). The last time around, AirAsiaX flew to Christchurch from Kuala Lumpur but a few years ago.
If you are planning to visit the Kiwi Land and to the land of Hobbits, you should stalk the AirAsia website for the cheap promo fares (coming soon we hope) and let your dreams to conquer Middle Earth comes true. Now, everyone can fly to New Zealand.
