Fukuda Sri Hartamas Motsunabe and Yakitori

This restaurant is featured in Ho Chak! In Japan Episode 5 on 3rd December 2017. The series is entering the middle season as there are only 10 episodes of Ho Chak! In Japan. We posted this late as we were traveling in Okayama for the past week and Ho Chak! In Japan will feature Okayama prefecture too soon in the series (spoiler).

For this episode, Gary and Orange ventured to Fukuoka in Japan. If you watched the episode, you could see them walked in the rain and also savour some of the popular food in Fukuoka. As part of our collaboration with Ho Chak! In Japan and Fun Japan, we have some of the exclusive behind the scenes video clips filmed in Fukuoka with Gary and Orange. Click and watch the videos below.

In Malaysia, team Ho Chak went to Fukuda at Desa Sri Hartamas for a very special Fukuoka dish, Motsunabe (もつ鍋). Motsunabe is a type of nabemono (hot pot) in Japanese cuisine. It is popular with the local Japanese community than the locals as not many people heard of motsunabe.

What is interesting about motsunabe is the ingredient is mostly beef tripe (or pork tripe). The hotpot is filled with soup with white cabbage, chives and garlic and topped with chopped chilies.

You can watch our review below.

There are not many places you can taste motsunabe so you can visit Fukuda for it. The focus is the soup and the vegetables and not so much of the beef.

Fukuda is very popular with their Yakitori. Yakitori means grilled Japanese meat skewers. At Fukuda, they use charcoal to char grilled the yakitori and that what makes their yakitori is so popular among the Japanese community in Kuala Lumpur.

We tasted three of their popular Yakitori and they are Chicken with Leek, Pork and Chicken Wing Yakitori.

In short, the yakitori here are juicy, tasty and flavourful. For the chicken wing yakitori, the skin is crispy and the meat is juicy and tender. We don’t mind going back for more!

This is only one of ten episodes of Ho Chak! In Japan and there are five more episodes to go. Remember to catch Ho Chak! In Japan on 8TV 6pm, every Sunday. There will be more interesting places Team Ho Chak! will venture and also more awesome Japanese restaurants in KL to recommend.

We watched all the episodes and we are truly inspired by the series especially on the some of the locations in Japan. In fact, we went to Okayama after we watched the series and we plan to visit more places in Japan next year.
