Super Mommy Mandarin Musical Resorts World Singapore Review

First of all, I am not a big fan of musical but I did watch a few musicals in Singapore and London. Super Mommy is my first Chinese musical and I watched this Taiwanese Mandarin musical in Resorts World Singapore last week.

Super Mommy is a new heart warming Mandarin musical from Taiwan and it premiered at Resorts World Theatre in May. It was a big hit in Taiwan and it had multiple sold out runs.

I am not going to talk a lot on the story of Super Mommy but instead I will share my experience. Super Mommy revolves in most family issues in Singapore. I was told that the story line is localised for the Singaporean audiences.

It is the story of a Singaporean family; grandparents, parents and a boy. The family decided to hire a foreign maid and how it affects and changes their lives.

The story reflects a lot on most family issues in Singapore and probably in Malaysia. What I like about this musical is the strong performances by the casts. Most of the casts are from Singapore and they are Jaspers Lai (赖宇涵), Lin You Fa (林尤发), Chriz Tong (汤薇恩) and Benjamin Josiah Tan (陈俊铭). Not forgetting is the stellar performance by Taiwanese theatre actress and singer Luo Mei Ling (罗美玲).

I like the tempo and pace of the story as there are comedies, songs and even some tense moments in between. At the end of the day, the story reflects on some of the real family and social issues of Singapore and that is one of the main reasons why it feels so personal in my opinion.

For your information, I am not Chinese educated but I do speak Chinese in Cantonese and Mandarin. That’s why when you hear my radio or TV interview in Chinese, I struggled. The best part of this musical is there are English subtitles on the side projectors. If you are not good in Chinese like me, just read the subtitles.

For a not a big fan of musical, I find Super Mommy is worth to watch. Super Mommy is 120 minutes long with 15 min interval.
