Touching Wild Boars Head for Fortune: Weird Tales of Wild Boars of Ampang Jaya, MALAYSIA

I didn’t believe it when I first heard it from Rachel’s friend. Touching wild boars head for fortune? Well, apparently this is real. In fact, I managed to get the pictures from him for this (pictures below). Such weird tales are even covered by Astro Chinese Channel, local Malaysian Chinese newspapers and also Singaporean newspapers. Why this has become such a big hit?

Apparently a few months ago, there are a few herds of wild boars came down the hills to look for the food. The residents noticed them and fed them. Somehow, one of the residents managed to touch the head of a wild board and subsequently he won a lottery prize of RM 10,000. The news spread like wild fire. There has been already such weird tales before in Taiping.

The actual location of this is at 9th road of Taman Tun Abdul Razak in Ampang Jaya near to the woods of Hulu Langat Range and also near the golf course. They usually appeared around the area at 6.45pm onwards. I was told that they only appeared for a couple of minutes and then they retreated back to the woods. Maybe they are too carried away with their fame, I’m joking.

With this hot topic spreading, many people are willing to travel to get their luck to touch the wild boars head for fortune. Please bear in mind, wild boars by nature are very aggressive. I hope those who are going there to see the wild boars remember to be cautious and becareful. I hope I can find time to see the wild boars soon. Tiger Beer Gives Free Beer at Asia Cafe, Subang, MALAYSIA

There is no such thing as free lunch. That is the first thing I learned from my economic class back in Uni. However, yesterday there was a thing call “free beer”. It wasn’t a joke. Tiger Beer was giving out free beers to anyone (except minors below 18 years old and Muslims) at Asia Café, Subang. The event lasted for an hour, started from 6pm on August 12^th.

There were a couple of hundred people queuing up for the free beer and the crowd control was good. Each person was given 4 cans of Tiger Beer for them to go home and drink. There were also random checks to make sure there were no violations (minor below 18 years old and Muslims). The event ended at 7pm and there were many happy faces in Asia Café. It’s good to have Tiger Beer “to give something back” to the community and the free beer idea is an excellent concept. I am looking forward for more free beers from Tiger Beer.

Nagomi Japanese Restaurant, Jaya 33: A Japanese Dinner Feast

My last food invitation review with Nagomi Japanese Restaurant was in Menara Hap Seng. I fell in love with their kobe beef and their shabu shabu. Lately, a few weeks ago, I had a food review “reunion” with Nagomi thanks to Shaz. This time around, the food review was held at their new outlet at Ground Floor, Jaya 33. At the food review, I met new friends such as Sandra Wong , Gary Lim, Yintse and old timer Jason Mumbles. Unlike the previous review where we tried more on the shabu-shabu, this time around we had more Japanese ala carte food. I love how they separate the restaurant to sections.

There are 2 VIP dining rooms and also a kushiyaki bar at the other side. Nothing beats a salad for an appertizer.

The Mango Salad (RM 28 / US$ 9) was the first to come. Sprinkled with fish roe, the refreshing mango salad with salmon sashimi made a good start.

Next was the sashimi platter. Served in a huge bowl, the sashimi platter or better known as Sakura Sashimi Moriawase (RM 128 / US$ 40) came with a nice decoration. There 7 different sashimi types of seafood; each type comes in three.

The sashimi was very fresh. Not forgetting also it comes with the real grated wasabi, not the powdery fake wasabi (hot radish). No complains.

The Legendary Meng Kee’s Char Siew (Caramelized Roast Pork) at Glenmarie, Shah Alam, MALAYSIA

One of the most popular char siew in Kuala Lumpur, the Meng Kee Char Siew (Caramelized Roast Pork) has been around for years. However my first visit to their shop is at their branch in Glenmarie, Shah Alam.

It was a hot day and my clients tagged me along to one of the unexpected food, char siew. After reading the signs in front of their restaurant, the place needs no more introductions. Thus, it was packed and we were lucky to have a table in minutes.

The restaurant was not air conditioned and luckily it wasn’t that stuffy inside. After getting our orders, the roast chicken came first.

To be frank, there is nothing more than amazing about their roast chicken. The skin was slightly crispier and the taste was more the less the same with other usual chicken rice stalls.

We ordered the grill sausage. To be frank, since I came back from Argentina, I began to fancy grill sausages. Compare to the roast chicken, this was better. The taste and the fillings, this was pretty good.

Lastly, the legendary char siew (caramelized roast pork). I noticed that the skin is darker and stickier than usual. My guess would be more sugar was applied on the skin during the grilling process, which resulted darker char siew skin colour and I wasn’t wrong. It was sweeter than usual char siew and I loved how they use layered pork for it. It was really up to the expectation.
The bill came about roughly around RM 10 per person with drink. Slightly expensive than usual, but its worth the price. Thank you for reading.

The AXE Effect Launch Party at Euphoria, Ministry of Sound: Girls, Catfight & Police Raid!

Believe it or not, this was my second time to Euphoria, Ministry of Sound at Sunway Lagoon Resort after last year’s Hot Magazine anniversary party. Thank you for the invitation for the “Hottest Party of the year”.

I was with the hundreds to witness the launch of the AXE effect and not to mention the free flow drinks.

After the performance, we went up for the VIP area. There, we were given a real treat, finger foods and free flow beer and whisky.

Then, there was a cat fight between 2 girls for a guy! They were hair pulling and everyone were shell shocked. Only to realize it was just a show. If you think that is not drama enough, we got raided!

Lights were up, music were off. There were an officer went up on the stage demanding everyone to queue up. Sadly, many knew it was another stage show. It was really a great show, how creative!

Then the lights went out and a group wearing sexy police costume went out and dance. Crowd went wild!

Nothing is amazing without a bunch of friends. Will Quah, Stephan and me.

Not forgetting hot girls and me camwhoring. It was necessary!

It was a fantastic night. Kudos to the creative of the event as well as the PR company who did a great job. I heard more than 1000 people turn up for the event. That was inclusive of dozens of celebrities at the VIP area. Not forgetting to thank Charles, Alan, Stephan, Gary and I-Mae for inviting me. Pity didn’t manage to take a picture with all of you.

Hot Spring in Kuala Lumpur, Kolam Air Panas Sg. Serai – Dusun Tua, MALAYSIA

Not much people know about this place apparently. One of the few near Kuala Lumpur area’s hot springs. Located in Dusun Tua, Hulu Langat, Selangor (Cheras) this place is usually patronized by the locals. Like the Japanese “onsen” (hot spring), most hot springs are rumoured to have healing capabilities.

Kolam Air Panas Sg.Serai is believed to have such healing capabilities. The area is small, with a few designated car parks. There are no entrance fees or charges to visit the hot spring, it’s a public place. There’s no toilet or changing room either.

The hot spring is usually crowded at evening times.

The weather is much cooling during evening. The water is warm and not extremely hot.

Don’t go to the area with bubbles, those are the source of the hot spring. Those areas will be very hot, be careful. Since it’s a public area, please do not dirty the area when you go there. Be ethical, don’t simply throw rubbish anywhere, no one is manning the area. Let us enjoy what nature has provided, don’t destroy it. I hope you have a great time there.

I was enjoying my time at the hot spring, the water of the hot spring was warm and soothing.

How to get to Kolam Air Panas Sg. Serai (Hot Spring)

From Kuala Lumpur, use the Cheras main road towards Sg. Long / Kajang highway (Grand Saga Highway). After paying the first toll, keep left turn to Cheras Batu 9. Drive further you will pass by a police station and immediately turn left at the traffic light (2nd traffic light from the highway). Drive a few kilometers ahead after u will see (G-Mart supermarket on your right), the hot spring will be a few hundred meters on the right. There are a few parking there. Enjoy.

Taylor’s University College, Lakeside Campus Open Day

On 20th of March, I went to the new Taylor’s University College, Lakeside Campus for its Open Day.

Sitting in a 20 over acres site with a 5 acres of lake, the campus is nothing but outstanding.

The campus is built with an environment friendly (green) concept.

The corridors are built as such so that air can flows in from the lakeside, thus less relying on electricity to cool down the area. Such innovation, help the college as I was told save energy as well as making the college produces lesser carbon copy.

Not forgetting the trees and huge lake sit in the middle. The lake does help to make the scenery looks better. I was told that they will have water sports on this lake in the future. Nice.

I’m an ex-Taylor’s student myself. I completed my Canadian Pre-University in 1997. As an ex-student, I’m glad Taylor’s University College has this new campus. I was there early, 10 am and the crowd was already building up.

The multiple purpose hall was packed when I was there. Many parents brought their children to look around the new campus.

I walked around and found this quite interesting from the School of Health Science. I was told this is real stuff.

The School of Architecture, Building and Design is one of the most popular courses in Taylor’s. Check the creativity on this one! A city built using recycle parts of a computer.

After attending the talk, I was given a tour during the Open Day. The new library is really impressive. It’s bigger and also with lots of studying desks for students in the library.

Tables and chairs are assigned in such so that students are comfortable studying in library.

Look at the color scheme and the individual tables and chairs. It’s a good place to study for exams without interruption.

Well, I couldn’t believe my eyes when they have a Mac room in the library. Check out the new Macintosh. The amount of investment they do on this college is unbelievable. Instead of getting my own, I can use the facilities here. This can save parents thousands of ringgit.

My BEST Live Football Experience: MALAYSIA CUP FINAL 1996

Don’t ever brag about football if you haven’t watch a live football match. I always told off those who loved to brag about their favourite teams. Most Malaysians loved foreign football league such as English Premier League (EPL), Spanish La Liga, Italian Serie A, World Cup and Euro Cup. Many of them neglected the local football scene. Me myself is an avid England, Liverpool and Selangor FC supporter.

I never brought up to be a footballer. I wish I have the stamina and power but yet it never deter me to have a nice football game regardless of winning or losing. My last football game will be a futsal game a few years back. Going up in a public high school, I was influenced by our multi racial friends to watch local football. In the 90s, Malaysia’s football was having its peak with Singapore playing in our Malaysian League. Well, I’m a huge supporter of Selangor FC, our local state football club. Selangor FC is one of the most successful Malaysian football club in the history.

My first experience of live football comes in 1995, Malaysia Cup Final: Selangor beat Pahang 1 – 0. It was really an eye opener, though I couldn’t see the players clearly but the atmosphere was electric. Stadium Shah Alam really rocked. The football game ended with fireworks display that thrilled the crowd.  From there, I started to watch live local football matches with my fellow friends. After graduating high school in 1995, me and my fellow local football fan supporters went to our own ways.

We began to lost touch as everyone was busy with their lives. However, in 28th Dec 1996, me and my fellow Selangor FC friends were united. It was the Malaysia Cup Final 1996: Selangor vs. Sabah. Sabah’s Australian player Scott Ollerenshaw was the top scorer in the league and Sabah won the 1996 Malaysian League so Sabah was the favourite to win. Thus, the Malaysia Cup was played in Selangor FC’s homegrown of Stadium Shah Alam with the capacity crowd of 80,000 supporters! Basically it was our version of Barcelona’s Nou Camp.

We reached the mighty Shah Alam Stadium early, avoiding traffic jams. It will be easier to get parking space also.

This was us, me, Liew Wai Hong, Siew Haw Hoe, Steven Ng and Kung. Our friend, Affendi’s mum made the custom made hats for us. Kung and the rest did the custom made flag. We were ready for Shah Alam Stadium!

Got our tickets and it was free seating. The ticket cost around RM 10. We sat in the middle of the stadium, where all the actions were. There were a few confrontations between Selangor FC and Sabah FC supporters. The policemen were stationed so they kept a good eye on them. The tension was starting rising. Everyone were getting excited.

Twestival KL (Twestivalkl) 2010 – Starbucks, Tropicana City Mall

My first ever Twestival or TwestivalKL #twestivalkl. Due to great response, tickets were sold out days before the event. Yet, for charity, I went there for one purpose, donation.

This year, #twestivalkl is celebrated in Starbucks, Tropicana City Mall. Thanks for the free coffee and free food.

To avoid the rush hour traffic jam, I reached there early. To my surprise, I manage to grab a ticket for RM 5 that comes with a free Starbucks drink. There, I met new friends like @davidlian @radianceleong @kruel74 and @ling_chan

The emcees for the night – Will Quah and Radio DJ Jules. They had lots of fun auctioning weird stuffs such as pole dancing experience, 4 hours of errants and also car wash by the ladies. As generous I could be for charity sake, I won a car wash from @ling_chan for RM100. Pictures will come soon.

Well it was a fun night indefinitely. We ended up playing Monopoly Deal in one corner while the rest chit chatting around. Thanks #Twestivalkl for such a great event. I enjoyed it! Awesome!

Guinness® St. Patrick’s Day 2010 in One Utama, MALAYSIA

Last Friday, I went to the Guinness® St. Patrick’s Day 2010 in One Utama. After missing the annual affair for the past few years, this is my first virgin visit to the St. Patrick’s Day. I reached there early to avoid unnecessary traffic jams.

At 6 pm, the crowd began pouring in to the St. Patrick’s festival. I was the lucky few who got the free St. Patrick’s Day cup cake courtesy of Cupcake Chic. Well, I wasn’t alone of course, if you can notice @vvens (Vivien Sam) in the background.

Joining me that day were @natchai (Natalie Chai), @vvens (Vivien Sam) and @babyginz  (Ginny).

Of course we had fun taking pictures at the KLUE booth. Well, that’s not it.

There were also performance like this. Don’t try this at home. “Yoga Flame~~~”

Not forgetting the girls in costumes. Families took turn to take pictures with them. Everyone was having a good time.

As we were having dinner from the food stalls at festival, we bumped to more bloggers. From left, Ginny, Vvens, Nuffnang’s boss Timothy Tiah, Tziaaa, Adele Chow and me. After having a few glasses of Guinness and the lovely food from the stalls, it was time to go to the Comedy Club show (every hour show).

It’s our very own Malaysia’s finest comedian actor, Douglas Lim. The comedy area was packed and he rocked the house.

It was a great night and not forgetting my other friends who treat me Guinness. It was great to have them as company. The event was lovely and yes it was indeed a St. Patrick’s Day experience! I’m looking forward to next year’s festival!
