100 Years Sarm Chook Market, Suphan Buri, THAILAND

Yes, it’s known to have existed for 100 years old, the Sarm Chook Market of Suphan Buri, Thailand. Unseen and probably another gem of Suphan Buri, we were probably the first few who visited the market. This was a sponsored trip organized by the Tourism Authority of Thailand.

Catered for local, the market is used to be a Chinese settlement. The structures still remained till today, like the wooden house in the picture. Do you notice that there are a few newer structures beside the wooden house.

The market is similar to a Chinese traditional market. Food, souvenirs and local products are available here. The market is as big as 3 to 4 streets filled of stalls. We took almost an hour to walk around the market. Not really that huge, but worth to walk around.

Like I mentioned earlier on, this place is still not publicized or commercialized yet so only locals usually shopped in the market.

Souvenirs and things like hats are a common sight in the market. Always remember, prices are negotiable. Please always request for a calculator if they have one.

As I wandered around the market, I realized the market is situation on the riverside. That’s makes sense how the Chinese opened a settlement here.

Food is another attraction in Sarm Chook market as I mentioned earlier. Mostly traditional Thai food would be available here, as mostly the customers are locals.

The market itself is not that huge. Say 3 to 4 streets filled with stalls and shops. The uniqueness of this market will be the old buildings dated probably back to a century old. Traditional local food could be another attraction here. One of the best thing about here is it is not fully commercialized yet.

How to get to Sarm Choon Market Suphan Buri:

It’s a very good question. Try to source for local tours that is inclusive of Suphan Buri. As I was brought here by the Tourism Authority of Thailand to promote this place, I bet they would have local tour companies providing tour to this place. Good Luck!

Suphan Buri had quite a few string of surprises for us. One of the highlights of Suphan Buri was the Suphan Buri City Pillar Shine. Thank you, Tourism of Thailand Malaysia (TAT) for bringing us to this magnificent place.

Suphan Buri temple unlike other Thai temple, is very much influenced by Chinese culture. Though the built up area of this temple is not huge, but it looks grand by itself. The temple was built by Thai Chinese decendents, if not mistaken.

I will need a translation for this, will have to wait for Rachel to translate this.

This is the reason its called the City Pillar Shrine. It’s located at the middle of the temple.

Majesticly done.

Can you the shadow of the pillar?

Outside the inner main entrance of the temple. You can clearly see the Chinese characters beside the door.

Lovely art and colorful. Pillars are well painted and artfully done.

Within the temple, more pillars. Look at the marble floors.

Within the temple, very spacious area. The temple was well maintain, very clean, polished floor.

I must admit the temple did impress me. It’s one of Suphan Buri’s highlights. If you came across Suphan Buri, this is the place you can visit. I hope you like the pictures, thankfully the sky was blue enough.

Thanks for reading!

This place is quite scarce and its located at Suphan Buri. This visit was arranged by TAT (Tourism Authority of Thailand) back in last September. This was the 3rd day of our trip. After having our breakfast, we hopped to our van and we brought this temple in Suphan Buri.

When the sign reads Thai only, you know its not exposed to tourists yet. The sign should reads Wat Palaelaiwonwiharn. Even though it’s just a sign, but it was nicely done, look at the handwork.

The scene of the whole temple. ...

It was a sunny day indeed and the sun was scorching hot. Well, hot sun and means good for picture!

The entrance… of the temple. The other side of the temple were renovating at that time. I guess they were upgrading the temple.

Me inside of the temple. The ceiling was very high. Please see the picture below.

The huge buddha statue with the prayers. The ceiling was very high and the buddha statue was enormous.

Smaller buddha statues were located the outside of the temple. Prayers then sticked the thin gold papers onto the statues.

The place was quite popular with the locals. It was quite packed when we were there, quite a number of prayers.

We were there for less than 1/2 hour. I walked around took some photos.

A new place to visit in Suphan Buri, the Wat Palaelaiwonwiharn. I wonder how it looks like now, after the renovation. Thank you, TAT (Tourism Authority of Thailand) for the trip.

After the Lotus Farm, Rice Cake Outlet and Fruit Orchard at Mahasawat River, Nakhon Pathom, Thailand, we called it a day. This was the second day trip of my sponsored food and travel trip to Thailand.

At that time, the sky turned grey and it was going to rain at anytime. Weather was kinda hard to predict, a hot sunny afternoon turned to a gloomy evening.

Amazingly, the gloomy sky turned to a good photography session.

After some time, we finally reached Suphan Buri from Nakhon Pathom.

We reached our resort, the Wang Yang River Park Resort.

Everyone were enjoying the welcome drink. As we slowly proceeded to our designated room.

It was a standalone resort concept with 2 rooms each.

Overall, the condition was decent.

And they gave me a 2 single bed room.

Bathroom was clean.

The shower area with a huge pot. Hot showers were available.

The resort catered for mostly locals. The area itself was quite outback. Something different from Bangkok city indefinitely. I would say the service was okay but it can be improved. The food there was okay. Make sure you close all the windows and doors, as it resided at the river banks, insects or bugs could come in. The resort was quite laidback.
