The New Istana Negara, Malaysia Royal Palace: Picture of the Week

A few weeks ago, I went to Plaza Damas for dinner. We went to dine at The Blue CowCafe for our future blogpost (personal review). There, I saw the new Istana Negara, Malaysia’s new Royal Palace.

This new Royal Palace will be the new official Royal Palace replacing the current Istana Negara at Jalan Istana. The new RM 800 million (US$ 258 million) Royal Palace sits on a 100,000sq m area together with mini army camp, parking area, security office and housing for the palace staff and police. The RM 800 mil is inclusive of the elevated access flyover from Jalan Duta (RM106 mil) while another RM32.5mil is allocated to upgrade Jalan Changkat Semantan, the second access road to the palace.

The new Royal Palace is located at the slope of a hill of Bukit Damansara overlooking Jalan Duta and it will be based on traditional Malay and modern architecture. It is expected to be finished by this year.

    1. Hi Lilian,

I believe the government will announce it later. Hopefully they preserved it and not to turn it to a commercial land.

  1. Hi Wilson,

Any reason why the need to build a new palace?
Anything wrong with the previous one?
Looks like a waste of government money..

    Just my thought…
