The Big Breakfast at Antipodean Café
(It’s a packed Antipodean Cafe, be early to avoid waiting for long queues. )
The café was packed but my friends manage to get a table before I reached. Parking could be an issue but you can park at Bangsar New Village and it is just a brisk walk to the café.
There is nothing fancy about the interior of the restaurant. Typical café-restaurant with a huge menu board but walking around inside the café is a huge challenge for a big person like me. The place is cramped with tables and chairs but you can’t blame them as there are always long queue outside the café. They tried their best to accommodate everyone but never lack the silver-line services.
I ordered their infamous “Big breakfast” for RM 19 with pork sausage. There are options of pork sausage, chicken sausage and bacon. Yes, Antipodean café is strictly NON-Halal. The big breakfast came with a generous amount of mushrooms, scrambled eggs, bread and butter, hashbrown and the pork sausage. The taste of the scrambled egg was subtle, hashbrown was more like a potato rosti but pork sausage was awesome. A little bit of salt and pepper will balance the scrambled eggs and how I wish that there were more sausages.
A coffee latte was the best compliment for the big breakfast and it was beautiful. I love how they made the latte, one of the best so far in Malaysia. With many coffee joints mushrooming the city, I hope to visit them next year.
Antipodean café lived up to its reputation as one of the best cafes in Kuala Lumpur. However, the breakfast didn’t impress me at all. They were shortlisted by Time Out KL Food Awards 2012 just like we did. If you looking for good coffee in Bangsar, you drop them a visit and don’t forget about the pork sausages too!
