Five Things to do at Scenic World Blue Mountains

Just a few hours train ride from Sydney CBD, you reach to the beautiful Blue Mountains National Park. It is about 100 kilometres west of Sydney and there are two beautiful towns in this area, Katoomba and Leura.  In Katoomba Blue Mountains, there is one attraction you should visit. It is the Scenic World, a private owned tourist attraction located in the UNESCO World Heritage Listed Blue Mountains New South Wales, Australia.

There five things to do at Scenic World and a gentle reminder for smokers, you can’t smoke in Scenic World and there are plenty of parking bays and it is FREE all day long. Thus, they have the largest souvenir shop in New South Wales. The five things to do at Scenic World Blue Montains are:

1. Scenic Skyway

Before I start, I advise everyone to get the free map at the ticketing counter so you know where you will be heading. Remember to get hydrated before you start your adventure in Scenic World.

Scenic Skyway is one of the top five things to do in Scenic World and remember it is up to you on which one you want to do first. I did Skyway first just because I want to capture the scenery at that time.
scenic world skyway falls
The cool thing about Scenic Skyway is it glides between two cliff tops and you will be suspended 270 metres above ancient ravines.
scenic world skyway glass floor
To make it interesting, you can have the best view of the rainforest through the glass floor. It takes some courage to stand on top of the electro-glass cabin floor. For the ones with weaker hearts, you can stand on the solid flooring and still can enjoy 360 degree views.
scenic world katoomball fall
The 720 metre journey gives you the best views of Katoomba Falls, the Three Sisters and the Jamison Valley. Since you are suspending 270 metres on top of the ravines, you get the best top view of Katoomba Falls. Trust me, the view of the Katoomba Falls is stunning!

2. Scenic Cableway

The second on the list is the Scenic Cableway. This is completely different than the Scenic Skyway. With the Scenic Skyway, you can discover panoramic views of the UNESCO World Heritage listed Blue Mountains.

Remember, this is a cableway (similar to a cable car) and the 545 metre journey descents in Jamison Valley and back. The journey offers a different view of Three Sisters, Orphan Rock, Mount Solitary and Katoomba Falls.
scenic world cableway cabin
You have to take the Scenic Cableway to access to the Scenic Walkway at the bottom station and there is 2.4 kilometres worth of Jurassic rainforest down there.

The Scenic Cableway is wheelchair accessible and good enough for 84 passengers so the cabin is quite huge actually. For your info, the cableway is the steepest and largest aerial cable in Southern Hemisphere!

3 Scenic Walkway

Coming from a tropical country rich with dense rainforest, Scenic Walkway might not be interesting but if you are into hiking, this is your playground.

The 2.4 kilometre Scenic Walkway is a totally different landscape than Southeast Asia’s rainforest. You need to bring a bottle of water if you want to venture the entire 2.4 kilometre walkway. They built an elevated boardwalk so visitors will have minimal impact on the environment as you walk around the Jurassic rainforest on the Jamison Valley floor.
scenic world coal mine
“Along the way, explore elements of the site’s coal mining history including the mine entrance, a replica miners’ hut and scale bronze sculpture of a miner and his pit pony.

Learn about local flora, listen for the native lyre bird or taste pure Blue Mountains water straight from Marrangaroo Spring. Enjoy a peaceful moment in the open-air Rainforest Room, or on rest benches located along the route.

Options for various walks taking ten minutes or a full hour are clearly signposted, along with the wheelchair accessible link between the bottom Cableway and Railway stations.” – Scenic World

The clean air and the beautiful rainforest, you definitely want to explore Jamison Valley. Bring your family or friends along and you definitely enjoy the walkway. How often you get a chance to walk in a rainforest jungle in Blue Mountains anyway?

4. Scenic Railway

It is hard to explain the thrill of this railway as this is the steepest passenger railway in the world. This is not a theme park and the 52 degree incline riding is one of the most entertaining rides of my life. It looks scary but it is not when you ride on it.

Why is it scary? Let me show the how steep this railway with a picture taken from far (at Three Sisters View Point).

This Scenic Railway has come a long way. From manually operated to fully automated operated, the history of this railway dated since 1945. Thus, it offers a thrilling experience with glass roofed red carriages offering views of the rainforest and the Jamison Valley.

This custom made carriages allow passengers to adjust their seated position up to 20 degrees so you get a “Cliffhanger” ride at a steep 64 degrees incline or “Laid Back” mode. The “Original” is at 52 degrees

The carriage descends 310 metres through a cliff side tunnel right to the Jamison Valley floor. The railway has thrilled over 25 million passengers and this is the fifth version of the trains made to ride the tracks since the Hammon family opened the attraction.

It can carry up to 84 passengers and the train departs every ten minutes.

5. Eat360 and Terrace Cafe

You definitely need to eat after a long day in Scenic World and they offer two food and beverages outlets – EATS270 and Terrace Café.
