Khao Kriap Cave (Tham Khao Kriap) Chumphon

Chumphon is a province located in Southern Thailand. It is in between province Prachuap Khiri Khan and Surat Thani. Last year, I travelled to Chumphon to photograph most of the tourist attractions for the Easy Fun Self Drive in Thailand South Region Guide Book.

Khao Kriap Cave or also known as Tham Khao Kriap is known as one of the most beautiful caves in Southern Thailand. It is located at 85 kilometres from Chumphon along the main highway no. 4 (Chumphon- Lang Suan) and turn right for another two kilometres. The GPS for the location is 9.81851, 99.03936. The cave is in the Khao Krap Hill.

There is not much indication on the entrance and it is in the middle of the jungle. There is a stairway with handrail all the way up to the entrance of the cave. The hike will take around 20 min walk. As you climb the stairs higher you will be blessed with the beautiful scenery of Chumphon near the Khao Krap Hill.

During my visit to the cave, there was no one and not even a monk. The entrance of the cave looks like this.

Then, you need to squeeze yourself in a reasonably large hole into the cave.

Once you enter into the cave, you will be amazed by the natural beauty of the stalactites and stalagmites.

The cave is still natural and pristine and you will probably spot the Buddha Image sitting inside the cave.

I didn’t explore much around the cave and the cave is lightened by the natural lightings through the ceiling holes in the cave.

My advice is to visit the cave in a group and bring essentials like sweet and water. Climbing the stairs might be slightly tough for some. Expect to spend at least an hour to visit this cave.
