Last month, an Indian national man was caught in Perth after being caught with possessing ‘child exploitation’ and ‘other abhorrent material’ on two of his mobile phones. The 32 year old man deported after he completed two months in jail and also a fine of A$500.
Australian Customs Officials can check your electronic devices for porn and anyone found in possession of illegal material can face up to 10 years imprisonment and/or a fine of up to $525,000.
According to Australia Border Force Website, Child Pornography is Illegal.
“Child pornography (any depiction of children in a sexually explicit manner) is illegal.
Publications, films, computer games and any other goods that describe, depict, express or otherwise deal with matters of sex, drug misuse or addiction, crime, cruelty, violence, terrorist acts or revolting or abhorrent phenomena in such a way that they offend against the standards of morality, decency and propriety generally accepted by reasonable adults are not allowed. This includes bestiality and sexual violence.
Penalties
Child pornography – up to 10 years imprisonment.
Other illegal pornography – lose your goods, on the spot fine, prosecution and large financial penalties may apply.
Examples
Offensive fetishes in publications such as offensive fetishes, bestiality, child pornography, sexual violence.
Exceptions
None”
We are not sure why some people need to have child pornography content in their phone or laptop as it is really disgusting. Same goes to bestiality or sexual violence content.
Please make sure you don’t have such content in all your folders before you enter Australia. If the Australian Custom officer found such content, you might end up in jail and fines before deporting you back. The Australian Customs have the necessary rights and laws to check on your phone and laptop content.
