AirAsia New Cabin Baggage Policy During COVID-19 (UPDATED 28/4/2020)

You probably read this from other portals and the reason we didn’t publish this yesterday because we are looking for an official source. The AirAsia New Cabin Baggage Policy During COVID-19was published in their website FAQ section and you can read it here. The new cabin baggage policy is due to ensure social distancing among passengers onboard their flights.

There are a few changes to the existing rules and this is most likely for the COVID-19 period. Travellers are allowed to bring in onboard ONLY ONE (1) piece of cabin baggage which can be:

1 laptop bag OR 1 handbag OR 1 Small Bag

This means only ONE piece and NOT two pieces.

The allowed ONE item must also comply with the following conditions to be carried into the aircraft cabin.

  • MUST NOT exceed 40cm (Height) x 30cm (Width) x 10cm (Length)
  • MUST NOT weigh more than 7kg

If you wish to travel with more than the permitted cabin baggage limit, for your convenience, we recommend you to pre-book your checked baggage allowance prior to the cut-off time. You may read on their checked baggage policy here

If you use a wheelchair or mobility device to get around, please refer to their FAQ on wheelchairs and mobility devices onboard .

Also make sure you are aware of prohibited carry-on baggage items, and the limitations on liquids, aerosols and gels.

Cabin baggage allowance for infants and children
Infants below the age of 2 years are not allocated any cabin baggage allowance. Children age 2 years and above will be given the same allocation of cabin baggage allowance as mentioned above.

Baby strollers/buggies/prams can be carried free of charge as checked baggage provided they are being used by a child or an infant. Otherwise, a checked baggage allowance must be purchased.

Pock it baby strollers or foldable baby strollers are allowed as cabin baggage as long as it is within our cabin baggage allowance.

Items Purchased at the Airport
All items purchased at the airport will form part of your cabin baggage allowance.

Only duty-free items packed in a Security Tamper-Evident Bag (STEB) which is sealed (until your final destination) and accompanied with proof of purchase, is exempted from your cabin baggage allowance provided it is within the duty-free allowance of your destination country.

Important notice: Regulations regarding the carriage of duty-free items may vary depending on each airport operator’s policies. If unsure, please check with your local duty-free store personnel.
