This is one of our favourite souvenirs and chocolates from Japan as you can find them in many discount stores especially Don Don Donki Japan outlets. Depending on outlets, the Japan Famous Bourbon Alfort Chocolate can be as low as 60 – 70 yen per pack which is around RM 2.40 and above per pack. In Malaysia, some retail outlets are selling it at RM 6.90 while we bought it on Shopee for around RM 4.28 – RM 4.39 at https://bit.ly/34yvd4X. The Bourbon Alfort Chocolate comes with a few flavours and they are rich milk, vanilla, strawberry, vanilla, milk chocolate, bitter, Hokkaido vanilla and bitter. We tasted most of the flavours except the banana chocolate, rich chocolate and Hokkaido Vanilla.
The one we are reviewing is the Bourbon Alfort Milk Chocolate with the sea blue packaging. There is an extra plastic wrapper inside for extra protection.
It comes with a simple plastic tray with 12 pieces of chocolate. The chocolate is printed with the sailboat and some Malaysians called this ‘coklat kapal’ which simply means boat chocolate. The other side is the whole grain biscuit cookies.
The ingredients for the Japan Famous Bourbon Alfort Milk Chocolate is sugar, wheat flour, whole milk powder, cacao mass, shortening, vegetable oil, cocoa butter, wholewheat flour, wheat bran, salt, wheat germ, modified starch, emulsifier (from soy), baking powder, flavourings.
The Japan Famous Bourbon Alfort Milk Chocolate offers no HALAL certificate but the ingredients do not contain pork or alcohol and hence it is popular among Muslims.
