Pratunam Famous Pink Chicken Rice Go Ang

Pratunam is a popular area for Malaysians and Singaporeans and the main reason is shopping. Most Malaysians I know stayed in Pratunam while the rest will stay in other areas in Bangkok near the BTS Station. The first thing many people do when they reach Pratunam is to eat that famous pink chicken rice shop and it is called Go Ang.

Go Ang Chicken Rice has a humble beginning. They started selling chicken rice in food cart before moving to Pratunam 50 years ago. Now, Go Ang Chicken Rice has open more restaurants in Bangkok as well as in Singapore.

The restaurant opens from 6 am to 11 pm but usually sold out after lunch before dinner. This is the reason why many tourists especially Malaysians will get their meal fix after checking in at nearby hotels in Pratunam and we listed down top 20 Pratunam hotels nearby.

Firstly, if you see the photos of people without mask, don’t panic as these photos are taken weeks before COVID.

I visited Bangkok since 1999 and my first meal at this Pratunam famous chicken rice Go Ang is in 2019. I tried to visit them in a few occasions but usually they sold out their chickens and this time, I went there first thing in the morning and finally I have my chicken rice fix for breakfast.

Before I start to review their chicken, please check out their menu and their chicken rice starts from 40 Baht. The price is still reasonable despite its popularity. Since this restaurant is located in tourist area and the menu is available in English.

The rice is fragrant and better quality then what we have in Malaysia and this is one of the reasons why Malaysians love Thai chicken rice. At Go Ang, the portion of the rice and chicken is reasonable and you can always add one of the side orders available.

Many people called this Thai chicken rice but it is Hainanese chicken rice. The difference is they debone the chicken like in Singapore and they use fragrant rice.

Another significant difference is the chili sauce is not the usually garlic acidic version. Their version is comes with more intense spiciness with hints of saltiness.

If you notice, the chicken do not comes with light soy sauce and cucumber. The chicken is smooth and tender and it comes with a soft piece of chicken liver.

Even though there is not light soy sauce, I think the chicken and the fragrant is good enough. The double boiled soup is pretty good in tasty and it also adds more flavour to the chicken rice.

For your information, the Go Ang chicken rice is listed in the Michelin Guide Thailand under the Bib Gourmand category which means good quality food. Not everything listed under the Michelin Guide Thailand is expensive as there are categories like The Plate and Bib Gourmand below the ‘Stars’.

Is Pratunam Famous Pink Chicken Rice Go Ang worth it? To be honest, the chicken rice is definitely better than most other chicken rice up there and for that price, I don’t mind coming back again.
