Malaysia Passport Renewal 2022 (UPDATED 8/4/2022)
It has been a crazy week. There are many announcement of about traveling in Malaysia. First the announcement of Malaysia Thailand VTL planned for May, then Malaysia Thailand VTL on 15 March 2022 and lastly Malaysia Open International Borders on 1 April 2022. The most important thing of all, I need to do my Malaysia Passport Renewal as soon as possible before everyone starts to renew last minute. This is what you need to know about Malaysia Passport Renewal 2022
There are three options for Malaysia Passport Renewal 2022.
1. Online Appointment Application (STO)
You can do your Malaysia Passport Renewal via Online Appointment Application (STO) at: http://sto.imi.gov.my/sto/home.php
You need to Book Your Appointment for the venue of your choice with the date and timing. Once you book your appointment, bring the proof of the appointment to the immigration department to renew your passport.
The problem is it is very hard to get online appointment in upcoming days and you might need to keep on trying until you get the exact date probably weeks away.
The system will keep on prompting the slots are taken until you hit the right date, time and venue. I didn’t use this option as I need to renew my Malaysia Passport urgently.
2. MyOnline Passport Application
This is the second option for Malaysia Passport Renewal in 2022. You can renew online with MyOnline Passport Application at: https://imigresen-online.imi.gov.my/eservices/myPasport
You need to take your own passport photo and upload, pay online and you collect from the immigration venue you selected.
The issue we heard is many people took the passport photo wrongly and hence some might need to retake the photos. . I didn’t use this option as I need to renew my Malaysia Passport urgently.
3. Walk in Malaysia Passport Renewal Is No Longer Available (UPDATED 8/4/2022)
This is probably the easiest and fastest way for Malaysia Passport Renewal in 2022 for me. I got to know that you can walk in for Malaysia Passport Renewal and it is applicable for Immigration Department in Putrajaya only. I went to another Immigration Department and I was told to visit Immigration Department in Putrajaya. You need to bring your documents like IC / Birth Certificate and current expired passport. Take a number, take the photo on the spot and pay at the counter. E wallets and credit card is accepted. After payment, please wait for two hours but I got mine at around 90 mins. Total time spent at Immigration Department in Putrajaya is around two hours. Two hours to get my Malaysia Passport renewal done is good job. If you want hassle free, you can walk in at Immigration Department in Putrajaya (Menara Ikhlas).
Lastly, these are the
three options for Malaysia Passport Renewal in 2022. Please take note that the rules and regulations might change as we are moving to endemic in Malaysia from April 2022 onwards. My intention to do this post is to help everyone for their Malaysia Passport Renewal as I struggled to get the right information.
Travel safe and take care everyone. My flying days will be coming soon.
