Malaysia To Open Two Land Borders with Thailand 1 April 2022
Good news! We have been waiting for this announcement for days! Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin today. Malaysia to open two land borders with Thailand from 1 April 2022. The two land borders will be Wang Kelian Perlis to Satun Thailand and Bukit Kayu Hitam to Wang Prachan Sadao Thailand. Please take note this is for travellers only.
We have been to both borders and Wang Kelian is the least popular border as it is from Perlis to Satun as not many people familiar with this province. Previously, Wang Kelian was ‘borderless’ and you can cross to Satun near the border without passport. For that reason, many locals and tourists will visit this land border for shopping or to stamp their passport.
For Bukit Kayu Hitam, this is the most popular border and traffic jam can take up to four hours during festive season before pandemic. Many locals will visit Dannok Sadao for the weekend while many will drive up to Hatyai for a few night stay.
For those who are looking forward to visit Betong, the land border is still closed until further notice. Please take note that the full standard operating procedures are not announced yet as both countries are trying finalized the details.
