The Sudden Shortage of Influenza Vaccine
The Sudden Shortage of Influenza Vaccine
Due to the recent news of the passing of Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu partially due to influenza in Japan, many people went to take the influenza vaccine for the past few days. This sudden concerning trend has emerged across the country: clinics are facing a sudden shortage of influenza vaccines.
I am traveling soon so I decided to check on nearby clinics and it is the same answer. Influenza vaccines sold out and it is out of stock. The doctor told me his three months stock of influenza vaccines sold out in a day. Thus, there is no timeline as when the influenza vaccines are available.
I further asked my doctor friends and it is the same answer. All of his clinics were ran out of influenza vaccines creating the sudden shortage. This is the same answer from a doctor friend who works in a hospital. Sudden shortage of Influenza vaccines.
This is the panic of the public due to the case of Barbie Hsu and the rise of influenza cases in Japan due to winter (which is common in cold countries).
I have been traveling with and without influenza vaccine for years so don’t panic. If you are worried, please wear a mask at all timesand do bring the necessary medicines when you are traveling. Remember to buy travel insurance and take care.
