Raya Restaurant Phuket Town Michelin Bib Gourmand

This is not our first time to Raya restaurant in Phuket Town. We blogged about our first experience in 2011 and this is our third time at Raya Thai restaurant. Raya Thai is a very popular local restaurant in Phuket town serving authentic local food.

Raya restaurant is the one of the 15 restaurants and street food we reviewed listed in Michelin Guide Thailand 2019. Raya Restaurant sets in a beautiful 130 year old Sino-Thai building and there are parking spaces at the back of the restaurant. If you love historical buildings, you should check out the design and architecture of this restaurant.

The last time we dined in this restaurant, most of the customers are locals but now there are more tourists dining here. Hence, they offer English menu too.

We ordered three of their signature dishes and they are crab coconut curry with white noodles, stir fried Pak Meang and slow braised pork.

We tasted a number of crab coconut curry with white noodles in a couple restaurants in Phuket and Phang Nga and the best so far is from Raya restaurant.

You can order their usual spiciness and the colour of the curry will be yellow in colour or the lesser spiciness with the colour of the curry will be pale yellow. The curry is creamy with flavours of the coconut milk and curry while the fresh crab meat complements well with the white noodles. Raya restaurant offers the best combination in terms of taste, freshness of the crab and texture.

For the slow braised pork, the texture of the meat is soft and tender as if it melts in the mouth. The pork is flavourful with hints of spiciness from the pepper. For ‘tong po’ pork lovers, you might like this. This complements well with the white rice.

Lastly, we ordered the stir fried Thai leaves or better known as Pak Meuang with egg. If you never tasted this before, you should order this. We love the taste and texture of this dish and we always order this whenever we are in the part of Thailand.

The food in Raya restaurant is consistent after so many years but the price is higher than the other restaurants. Well, we don’t mind paying a bit more for good food right? Raya restaurant is a must visit restaurant in Phuket and remember to order their signature dishes such as crab coconut curry, braised pork and Pak Meuang.

How do we travel around in Phuket? The best way to travel around Phuket and Phang Nga is by renting a car.
