Kyoto Sake Pairing at RONIN Mont Kiara Arte
Kyoto Sake Pairing at RONIN Mont Kiara Arte
Welcome to the hidden Japanese restobar in Mount Kiara Arte, RONIN. This stunning Japanese restobar is the venue of the night of Kyoto Sake Pairing event.

At this event, we have the master sake from Hong Kong,Mr David Suen who studied and lived in Kyoto for years with vast experience in sake in Japan.
He lined up four sake from Kyoto and they are:
Yosamusume Tokubetsu Junmai Kumninoura KENRO Tokubetsu Junmai
Matusuya Kyubee Junmai Daiginjo
Tsukino Katsura Junmai
Before the sake pairing session, David gave us a very informative presentation of the origin of sake from China to Japan and the distinctive features of sake from Kyoto.
In fact, he did a live video session with a sake brewery in Kyoto. The live session was conducted by 6th Generation Brewing Master, Mr. Nishihara Shiro. He went to show us the different types of parts of home sake brewery in Kyoto which is an eye opener for all of us.
Yosamusume Tokubetsu Junmai is Tokubetsu Junmai type with rice polish ratio of 65%. It comes with gentle aroma that you can slowly enjoy throughout the night.
Kuminoura KENRO Tokubetsu Junmai is Tokubetsu Junmai type with rice polish ratio of 55%. The taste is aromatic and it comes with hint of sweetness on my palate. In my opinion, this is a good sake for drinkers who are new to sake.
Matsuya Kyubee Junmai Daiginjo is Junmai Daiginjo type with rice polish ratio of 35%. This sake is brewed to the founder’s original vision, Matsuya Kuhe who established the legendary Kinshi Masamune brewery over 130 years ago. Taste is pure and delicate with hints of fruity flavour and this is another enjoyable sake for all night long.
Tsukino Katsura Junmai is Junmai type with rice polish ratio of 60%. It has a mellow taste with short and light finish.
They served this in hot and cold, depending on your preference. I love the small sips of hot sake in cups and I also enjoy the lighter sake in cold glasses.
Tsukino Katsura Junmai is suitable with heavy taste food like fried food and sukiyaki, to bring out the flavours.
The Kyoto sake is paired with various food cooked by RONIN which include sashimi, yakitori, deep fried food and more.
During the event, I had a great chat with David Suen about food and travels in Hong Kong and Japan. I learned so much at Kyoto Sake Pairing at RONIN Mont Kiara Arte, thank you again for the invitation.

This looks like a really interesting dining experience. Sake pairing is something that can completely change how you appreciate a dish, especially when the flavours are carefully matched like this. The presentation and attention to detail in Japanese cuisine always make the experience feel very refined.
It’s also nice to see places in Mont Kiara offering more curated tasting experiences like this. Food events that focus on pairing and storytelling behind the ingredients really add another dimension to dining in Kuala Lumpur. Definitely something I would love to try someday!
