Taylor’s University College, Lakeside Campus Open Day

The lecture theatre is something to look for. This lecture theatre for instance, has the background of the lake. With projector in front, students will be able see from the top. The chairs are cozy and design of lecture hall is impressive. Similar to the lecture hall in the Australian university, I studied.
I was told that there are 20 lecture theatres. All of them are well equipped. There are 2 lecture theatres of 300 pax, 5 lecture theatres of 200 pax and 13 lecture theatres of 100 pax. This lecture theatres are built to last.

Various talks were given that day depending on subjects and courses. I attended their Tourism talk and it was fruitful.

Many parents asked the respective lecturer questions on the degree major that their children were interested.

Questions like what are the available position in the market for a degree holder, what do they learn in the course and what are the university transfer options are often asked by parents. Questions like this are important for the parents to understand what will the children study and what will they become after graduation.
The lecturer also did point out a few key points in tourism industry such as the relationship between travel agencies and the consumers, the exploration of event management of hotels and many more.
The talk was around 45 min and it was very lively indeed. Some of the potential students also ask a few questions about the subjects of the course.

The Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts faculty is one of the biggest faculties in the campus. Practical areas, such as housekeeping suites, restaurants and even the upcoming 80-room boutique hotel is a great way for the students to learn.

Being there myself, I was brought to see the facilities in the faculty and I can only say it’s impressive. There are 5 full-service restaurants built for the course alone. These restaurants can be booked by outsiders and it’s the best way for the students to learn in such an environment.

Check out this room. The students can sit and watch from far by looking at the plasma TV on top. Another first for me here.

Forget Hell’s Kitchen, this is the real deal. Kitchen is huge and different restaurants using different kitchen. If only they offer such course 10 years ago, I would be interested to join. Seriously, how close is this to a real working environment? Very similar, this is as close as it gets.

I got lucky as there were some part time baking class there. Many working adult sign up for baking class like this as it commences during weekends. Not forgetting the top class chef who is giving the course. My mom would love to attend courses like this.

Then I was brought to the wine tasting area. It’s an eye opener. I have never seen such thing before. I was greeted by the lecturer and invited to test a few types of wine. Well, I wasn’t alone, the others were also greeted and invited a short wine testing session.

I was shown how to check the color of the wine using the light below. With the light assistance, the color, the clarity and also the clearness of the wine can be seen.

The lecturer, Mr. Raphael Vinesh then taught us how to drink the wine properly. After half an hour of chatting and discussing, I gain more knowledge on different types of wine. They also offer courses on wine tasting for wine enthusiasts.

  1. I’ve only been there once during my niece orientation program but indeed I would say that the facilities at Taylor’s are top-notch. Conducive environment for study and definitely worth the fees paid. Not sure about the standard and quality of the tutors though, will get my niece’s opinion if I met her once again.

  2. do u have the contact number for us to make bookings for the restaurants Truffles, Thyme, Tarragon, Tangerine and Temptations.

    thanks

  3. Hmm it looks like your blog ate my first comment (it was super long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I submitted and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog. I as well am an aspiring blog writer but I’m still new to everything. Do you have any tips and hints for newbie blog writers? I’d definitely appreciate it.Katy Roofing Construction, 2013 N.
