Colonial Tramcar Restaurant Experience

People tend to ask me, what is the memorial thing I did in Melbourne? I simply tell them, the dinner at the Colonial Tramcar Restaurant. The only moment that I can relate to its similarity is the Chao Phraya River Cruise in Bangkok or the Live Tango Performance Dinner in Buenos Aires Argentina. Melbourne is famous for its trams and having a dinner on a colonial tramcar itself is classic.

So then back in February, I was the lucky to have the opportunity to dine at Colonial Tramcar Restaurant. It was the second last day of my Victoria trip. The Colonial Tramcar Restaurant offers one and half hours of dining experience in the tram with 3 courses meal included. If you are looking forward for a fancy but yet nostalgic dinner, this is the right one.

The moment I stepped into the tram, the feeling and the atmosphere was phenomenon. It was as if I time travel back to the past. The lights, the chairs, the table and the whole ambience were all from the past.

After getting into my seat, the friendly waiter then offer me a drink. Sparkling, Victorian Red and White Wine, Beer, Bourbon, Whiskey, Brandy, Gin, Rum, Dry Vermouth, Vodka, Cognac, Tia Maria, Cointreau, Frangelico, Port, Dramb are available for dinner.

As the tramcar starting to move, the chef then explained briefly about the dinner. There are 2 choices for the menu. Since I’m sharing with my guide, we ordered a slightly different menu.
Chicken Liver and Cognac

For starter, we had Chicken Liver and CognacPâté crowned with pink peppercorns, served with crisp breads.

Macadamia Chicken

Then for the main, we ordered the Macadamia Chicken grilled chicken breast on sweet potato mash and baby spinach with a macadamia pesto sauce

Victoria Farm Eye Fillet of Beef

And also we ordered the Victoria Farm Eye Fillet of Beef with potato and herb rosti, seasonal vegetables, onion marmalade and rich beef jus
Warm Sticky Date Pudding

Then, we had our desserts which is the Warm Sticky Date Pudding with butterscotch sauce and cream

Chocolate Dome

And also the Chocolate Dome on a sponge wafer, topped with toasted almond flakes and a vanilla raspberry syrup

Lastly, we completed the dinner with a smooth cup of coffee. It is always nice to end a meal with coffee.
