Veuve Clicquot Contemporizes Mid-Autumn Festival with an Imperial-ly Yellow Autumn Celebration

Come this September, Chinese will be celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival. The annual celebration is usually celebrated with moon cakes and tea. It has been celebrated in such ways for centuries. However, Veuve Clicquot is going to break the tradition by serving out the perfect marriage of luxury champagne with exquisitely made mooncakes from Grand Imperial. This is the first time I hear champagne moon cake pairing combination.

A key festival within the Chinese calendar, the Mid-Autumn festival is traditionally observed as a time for families and friends to reunite and reconnect while participating in a host of activities ranging from moon viewing, lantern lighting or most commonly enjoying a hallmark seasonal delicacy – mooncake.

Choosing to celebrate key cultural highlights is not unique to the Maison, with Veuve Clicquot adding a ‘Naturally Clicquot’ and contemporary twist to such cultural celebrations like Halloween with ‘Yelloween’, Summer via the ‘Yellow Summer’ themed platform, and even Winter with ‘Clicquot in the Snow’

Taking the lead here in Malaysia, for the first time ever – Veuve Clicquot launches Veuve Clicquot’s Yellow Autumn. Consumers, gourmets, champagne aficionados alike are all invited to savor a glass of the Maison’s finest paired against a variety of delectable mooncake selections, custom matched to the elegant fruity notes and subtle aromas of brioche and vanilla found within the Veuve Clicquot Brut Yellow Label.

I was invited for this special Veuve Clicquot mooncake pairing lunch at Grand Imperial Restaurant, Hartamas Shopping Centre.I sampled four delectable mooncakes featuring a luscious assorted fruits and nuts paste with chicken bits, mouthwatering Pandan lotus paste single yolk, a divine almond with sesame white lotus paste and a seductive Bamboo Charcoal with white lotus tiramisu. They are the creation of Grand Imperial restaurant, freshly made and HALAL! The four mooncakes carry their own significant taste and the taste is very personal and subjective. I love the light flavor of Pandan lotus paste, I love the texture of fruits and nuts paste mooncake and also the strong flavored Bamboo Charcoal with white lotus tiramisu mooncakes.

How to do a champagne tasting with mooncake?

Take a bite of the mooncake and compliment with a sip of Veuve Clicquot. Let the chemical reaction works and try to taste the flavor and you won’t believe how a small sip of champagne can change your taste bud. For sweeter mooncakes, the champagne tones down the sweetness while for lighter in taste mooncake, it brings out the flavor of the mooncake. The best part of the pairing is it is fun, unpredictable and enjoyable.
