The Best of Langkawi Hotels: From best value to over-the-top luxury
Langkawi is one of those places we all go back to every now and then. Sure, it may not have the white sand beaches of Boracay or the crystal clear waters of Maldives, but it is an accessible island on Peninsular Malaysia that is unique in its own right, and is completely duty free.
Travelling families can enjoy a variety of activities like island hopping, snorkelling, water sports, taking the cable car up mount Mat Cincang, or visit the Underwater World Langkawi. Younger travellers can of course take advantage of the duty-free rates on booze and party on into the night.
When it comes to accommodation, there is no shortage of hotels in Langkawi at every price point. To help you decide, Placesandfoods.com has rounded up the best hotels offering great value, all the way up to over-the-top luxury. We’ve also compiled some of the most unique hotels you can find in Langkawi as an added bonus.
Best for Value Hotel
We find this resort to be the best beachfront hotel in terms of location and value for money. Nestled along the popular Pantai Cenang beach, Sunset Beach Resort offers a lovely stay in a nature-enveloped setting with lots of rustic and traditional charm. Rooms are clean and comfortable enough, with a price tag that starts at RM173 before taxes. We did a quick check across 3 major hotel booking sites and found Agoda.com to have the lowest price. With only 28 rooms, we’re not surprised if this hotel is always in high demand, especially during peak season. Be sure to plan and book in advance to avoid disappointment!

Most Unique Hotel
This resort is a hip and authentic accommodation choice in Langkawi that is quite unlike any other. Eight timbre Malay-styled houses make up Bon Ton Resort, each styled with an appreciation for all things vintage. Each villa had been lovingly restored with a nice balance of heritage and modernity, with several villas offering with an outdoor wooden bathtub, much like those seen in old world movies. Located along Jalan Pantai Cenang, the Silk Villa can accommodate 5pax and starts at RM700 on Agoda.com.

Temple Tree is another unique resort that is located within the vicinity of Bon Ton, with eight villas making up this rustic accommodation. The eight antique villas at Temple Tree have Chinese, Malay, Indian and Eurasian origins, each with at least 70 years of history. No surprise that this accommodation is affiliated to Bon Ton Resort and also Penang’s ChinaHouse. Guests can even find the same timbre bathtubs here at this resort. What sets Temple Tree apart is how each villa can be booked entirely as one, or separately as individual hotel rooms. A room in the Colonial House 1 starts at RM385 for 2pax with breakfast included.

Probably one of the most well-known backpacker accommodations in Langkawi, Tubotel stands out easily because of its unique accommodation structure where guests sleep in concrete tubes. While the idea may seem slightly claustrophobic, this concept proves to offer more privacy than dorms or hostels, and the atmosphere remains light-hearted and fun thanks to the hotel’s bright colours and modern design. A garden view tube with shared bathroom starts at RM116 for 2pax with breakfast included before taxes.
