Hong Khao Tom Pla is popular for their Thai cuisine as well as for their fish congee or fish porridge. They are located at the middle of Phuket Town in a small wooden restaurant with 7 to 8 tables in the restaurant. When we went there for late dinner, the restaurant was packed with customers and we have to sit outside of the restaurant. As long as we have a table, we are happy.
It is the open kitchen concept and you can check out the chef cooking the dishes. It is hard to communicate with them but luckily they have the English menu.
We ordered their Fish porridge, Stir Fried Fish with Fish Sauce and Fried Egg Omelette with Crab. If you noticed, we didn’t order the usual Thai dishes as we wanted something different. Ordering fish porridge as main dish while the other two side dishes for a change.
The fish porridge comes with generous amount of fish fillet. Remember to add the condiments such as ginger, spring onion, fried shallots and the fish sauce for seasoning.
The Stir Fried Fish with Pickled Cabbage. The fish fillet is deep fried and then stir fried with fish sauce and pickled cabbage. I enjoyed the flavour of the fish and the pickled cabbage taste didn’t empower the entire dish. To be honest it complements well with the porridge.
Fried Egg Omelette with Crab. We thought this could be similar with Jay Fai’s Egg omelette but it is not. This is like the home made fried egg omelette with crab meat. The crab meat is slightly hard but it goes well with the porridge.
We love the food here and we will come back again for their local Thai cuisine. The fish porridge lived up to the reputation. The food prices here are reasonable and you can find many locals dining here every evening. Hong Khao Tom Pla (ฮ้องข้าวต้มปลา) Fish Porridge is a must visit in Phuket Town.

They have over 32 branches with over 8000 cars in their fleet.
