Monorail in Hatyai Thailand

This is something unique that we wanted to share. Do you know there are plans to build monorail in Hatyai Thailand? We found out about the news recently and we thought we wanted to share this to our readers.

The Hatyai monorail project was studied in 2016 and it was aimed to start the construction in 2019. According to The Nation Thailand report earlier this year, Songkhla Provincial Administrative Organisation (PAO) has put in for Bt17.59 billion to build a monorail in Hat Yai to help ease traffic congestion problems in the city.

The project’s environmental impact assessment was approved in June last year and will soon be handed to the Cabinet for approval.

The Songkhla PAO will further study the project in line with the 2019 Private Investment Act and hand the report to the State Enterprise Policy Office. If there are no changes to the report, the project will be put up for bids within this year.

Each monorail is expected to carry 464 passengers and the fare is expected to be fixed at Bt20 throughout the line. The 12.54-kilometre system will include 12 stations from Klong Wa to the Rod Tuu station.

In addition, the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has a plan to build commuter rail linking Hat Yai and Songkhla by reusing a defunct railway line that closed in 1978.

When will this Hatyai monorail project starts? We are not sure yet but we will post once we have news on this project in Hatyai Thailand.

Hatyai Thailand is planning to open for International Tourists in the first quarter of 2022. For further details and information, we will update once we have more firm news from Thailand. This is the monorail in Hatyai Thailand and this will ease the congestion in the city. We hope to see this in Hatyai one day!
