Japan Rail Pass or JR announced that there will be price increase yesterday. The Japan JR Pass Price Increase is set to start from October 2023. For those who travel around Japan often, the JR Pass is the best way to travel around the country.
We used the JR Pass a couple of times traveling around Japan. The JR pass price has been the same for some time and now there is an announcement for price increase.
There will be a huge price increase for Japan JR Pass for 7 day, 14 day and 21 day for Ordinary Car and Green Car. The increment is from 65% to 77% depending on type of pass.
Japan JR Pass New Pricing October 2023:
Ordinary Car
7-day = 50,000 yen (Overseas Agent Price 29,650/33,610 Local Price) = 67% increase
14-day = 80,000 yen (Overseas Agent Price 47,250/52,960 Local Price) = 69% increase
21-day = 100,000 yen (Overseas Agent Price 60,450/66,200 Local Price) = 65% increase
Green Car
7-day = 70,000 yen (Overseas Agent Price 39,600/44,810 Local Price) = 77% increase
14-day = 110,000 yen (Overseas Agent Price 64,120/72,310 Local Price) = 72% increase
21-day = 140,000 yen (Overseas Agent Price 83,390/91,670 Local Price) = 68% increase
Since the Japan border opens, flight tickets are not cheap anymore and with the increment of the JR Pass, it will be more expensive to travel around.
However, we are still planning to bring our family to Japan in upcoming years and like it or not, we have to live with this Japan JR pass price increment.
