Revisiting Ho Chi Minh Tan Son Nhat International Airport

Just a quick story sharing about my recent revisiting Ho Chi Minh’s Tan Son Nhat International Airport in 2023. I was transiting in Ho Chi Minh for 10 hours as I was flying from Kuala Lumpur to Kansai Airport.

There are a few different timing of transiting at Ho Chi Minh Tan Son Nhat International Airport from two hours to 10 hours. The reason I transit for long as I wanted to revisit Ho Chi Minh and probably meeting a friend (but she was busy that day).

There is no bridge from the airplane to the airport and hence, you need to take a bus. Ho Chi Minh Tan Son Nhat International Airport is a medium size airport and hence there could be not many parking bays for airplanes.

The airport looks like the same like my first visit many years ago. I must say they did well maintaining the airport.

If you are transiting, please go to the gate immediately as there is long queue for the bags scanning area.

If you plan exit, yes you can but you need to queue up for the long arrival area. All the immigration counters are open, just that there were too many people arriving at the same time during weekend.

For Malaysians, we do not need visa to enter Vietnam. If you are transiting, your luggage will be sent to your final destination.

After 30 minutes, time to explore Ho Chi Minh. Please do take note that there are special areas for e-hailing app like Grab which is just a stone throw away from the arrival area.

Taxis in Vietnam are notoriously popular to scam tourists so either you take the Green taxi (Mai Linh) or you can just book your ride via the Grab App.

Remember that you need your boarding pass to enter, don’t lose it or you have to reprint again.

Another note is eating inside the Ho Chi Minh Tan Son Nhat International Airport International Gates area is extremely expensive. Everything is charged in US dollars and the prices are similar to the airports in Europe. This is probably the most expensive airport to dine in ASEAN. For example, mineral water is sold at US$ 2 each bottle and food is from over US$ 10 per meal.
