Hao You Teluk Kumbar Seafood

My parents have been following a few Hong Kong and China Youtubers based in Malaysia for a while. On my last trip to Penang, we went to the places they recommended and mostly are mediocre. This time, we went to Hao You Teluk Kumbar Seafood as recommended by these Youtubers.

Hao You Teluk Kumbar Seafood is located at Bayan Lepas and parking is limited here. We went there early before 6 pm and we manage to get a parking space.

Even though it was raining, it didn’t deter the customers coming in to Hao You Teluk Kumbar Seafood.

This is a typical seafood restaurant at Teluk Kumbar and this means open air restaurant facing the beautiful sea. On good days, you have the ultimate sunset view at this part of Penang.

Near the front counter there is the mud crabs. They were selling it at RM 150 per kg and these are XXL size crabs. For pricing, it is hard to say as there are cheaper crabs with smaller size in Kuala Lumpur. It is all about size and quality.

There is a pork satay stall at the side of the restaurant. This satay stall is called Teluk Kumbar Satay and this is good.

We were at Hao You Teluk Kumbar Seafood for dinner and these are the food we ordered:

✔️Sweet and Spicy Mud Crab

As the rain starts to stop, the restaurant was packed with people. Luckily we didn’t have to wait long for the food.

Claypot Tofu that comes in a plastic bowl instead of the claypot. Nothing special about this.

Lala with Soup as recommended. The taste of the soup is subtle and the size of the lala is small. I look at other table, the bamboo clams look bigger and appetizing.

Assam Sting Ray. The flavour of the assam can be stronger with more spicy and sour taste.

Sweet and Sour Pork

Hao You Teluk Kumbar Seafood oyster omelette

Oyster Omelette. It is more to egg omelette and the oysters are huge. It is not the starchy version and this is not too bad.

Hao You Teluk Kumbar Seafood sweet and spicy crabs

Sweet and Spicy Crab. This is the best of all, the crabs are really fresh and the sauce is spot on.

Overall the food at Hao You Teluk Kumbar Seafood is decent and not as good as it is hyped by Youtubers or things that I read on Google Review. Maybe our expectations are too high due to the high reviews by Youtubers and Google Reviewers.

Maybe, we ordered the wrong food but you definitely won’t be disappointed by the view here. Cheers everyone!
