I just read this article All Foreign Tourists Coming to Thailand Must Bring RM1.9k Cash Minimum or May Be Denied Entry by WorldOfBuzz.com just now. The website stated that the Indonesia Embassy in Bangkok released a reminder for their citizens to have cash requirements to travel to Thailand. Sounds confusing right?

The requirement proof is at least THB 15,000 per person or risk to barred entering Thailand. Wait, that Cash Requirements for Foreign Tourists Visiting Thailand sounds very familiar.

Do Malaysians need cash requirements for visiting Thailand? Well, Tourism Authority of Thailand Malaysia office mentioned this long time ago that this ruling is actually to prevent foreigners pretending to be tourists to work illegally in Thailand. However, there are no incidents involving Malaysians in the past.

The cash requirements are mostly foreign tourists that required tourist visa and one example is the statement from Thai Embassy in Nairobi. I found the cash requirement on Thai Embassy in Nairobi stating cash requirement of THB 2000 per person cash. The article is correct as it was targeted to Indonesian tourists to Thailand and not every other tourists to Thailand.
