My Disappointing Staycation at Corus Hotel KLCC

I recently booked a staycation at the Corus Hotel Kuala Lumpur, hoping for a relaxing and enjoyable break in the heart of the city for my family. I was given the staycation voucher so I decided to use it before it is expired. The hotel’s location, right across from KLCC, seemed perfect, and some of the online reviews were promising. I have been to Corus Hotel KLCC for the past few years so I know what to expect. However, my experience turned out to be quite disappointing.

The Room Refurbished but

Upon entering my connecting rooms (2 rooms), it was immediately apparent that the hotel just made some refurbishment. Even though it is partially refurbished, the furniture was dated and worn, with visible scratches and stains. The worst part is there room got a huge ciggy scent!

The carpet looked old and tired, and there was a noticeable musty smell in the air. While the room was spacious enough, the overall ambiance was far from the fresh and inviting feel I had hoped for. The bathroom was particularly underwhelming, with outdated fixtures and poor water pressure in the shower and the water is yellow in colour.

The front desk told me that the water is yellow at first but it will be clear but that was not the case. For the ciggy smell and yellow color water problems, the front desk offered two new rooms but not connection rooms.

Maintenance Issues

I am not trying to be picky but there is some maintenance issues going on here. There is one cable on the table and you wonder why didn’t they check and clean up the room before it is released to the guest.

The front desk knew about the yellow colour water in the bathroom, why didn’t they fix it? The answer only Corus Hotel KLCC maintenance team knows.

Cleanliness Concerns

While the room appeared superficially clean upon arrival, closer inspection revealed areas that were not properly maintained. There are stains on the bedsheet and the chair.

On the next morning, there is a dead cockroach welcoming at the corridor too. This is so disappointing even though I have lowed my expectations.

Breakfast Blues

The breakfast buffet was another letdown. The food selection was limited and the quality was mediocre at best.

They served probably the worst nasi goreng kampong ever. The rice is soft and it crumbles like mashed rice. The chef probably noticed I took photos and videos of the rice, decided to take it back to kitchen. The issue is why there is no quality control at the first place?

There is a coffee machine that dispense black coffee only, what happened to the rest like cappuccino or latte? It is so strange.

The Silver Lining off Location and Some Staff

Despite the numerous disappointments, the hotel’s location was undeniably a major plus. Being directly opposite KLCC and within walking distance of major shopping malls and public transportation hubs made it convenient for exploring the city. Additionally, some of the hotel staff members I encountered were friendly and helpful, particularly the concierge.

The front desk are helpful when I notified them about the ciggy smell in the room. I sprayed some perfume and thought the smell will go away but it didn’t. Housekeeping came and sprayed one round of air freshner but the smell is still there but lesser.

They are willing to change the rooms but there were no more connecting rooms available. Its a staycation with kids, we prefer connecting rooms so we stayed on.

Overall Impression

My staycation at the Corus Hotel KLCC was far from the relaxing and enjoyable experience I had anticipated. While the location is excellent and some staff members are commendable, the outdated rooms, maintenance issues, cleanliness concerns, limited amenities, and subpar breakfast significantly impacted my stay.

The hotel feels like it has seen better days and is in dire need of renovation and improved maintenance to justify its four-star rating and price point. For the first time in my life, my kids want to go home early during a staycation. That sums up my Disappointing Staycation at Corus Hotel KLCC.

Updated: There are some feedbacks from friends and readers stating their stay at Corus Hotel KLCC is not as bad as ours. I know the terms of what you pay is what you get but having all this issues during one night is abit overwhelming for my family.
