AirAsia Flight to Chitose Diverted to Sendai
AirAsia Flight to Chitose Diverted to Sendai
Sorry everyone, I have been really busy with Chinese New Year lately and the backlogs of my contents. Happy Chinese New Year everyone! Let’s start with the news that I read on a few social media platforms. AirAsia Flight to Chitose Diverted to Sendai.
As usual, I am compiling all the evidences before postings and this is what happened.
On 19 Feb 2026, AirAsia alerted the passengers with the Travel Advisory.
This is what I found on X (Twitter).

Travel Advisory | Flights to/from New Chitose Airport (CTS), Sapporo
Due to adverse weather conditions, flights to and from CTS Airport may be affected. Please check your flight status before heading to the airport via the AirAsia MOVE app or http://airasia.com/flightstatus
The flight was D79550 on 19 Feb 2026 and indeed it is reported as Diverted due to heavy snowfall.
This is what I got from Facebook.
AIRASIA IS A SCAM!!!
FLIGHT NUMBER [D7 9550D]
Today we were meant to arrive at Shin-Chitose Airport, Hokkaido at 8am Japan time (GMT +9), 19th February 2026. We diverted to Sendai Airport instead due to alleged weather reasons and we did not leave the aircraft until 1:23pm on the same day. We boarded the plane before 12am Malaysia time (GMT +8), which meant that we had been on the plane for at least 13 hours.
However, when I checked the weather report for Shin-Chitose and Sapporo, there were no reports of blizzard or snow storm. I also checked live flight radars and notice that other flights were able to land today at Shin-Chitose airport.
We were only given one meal at 2am (GMT +8) that we pre-ordered for the flight, and we did not get to eat anything until after passing immigration at around 2pm.
We were originally informed when passing immigration into Japan that there will be a replacement flight for us tomorrow (20th February 2026) at 11am. However, after passing immigration about 2 hours later, we were informed that the replacement flight was delayed to 3:30pm on 20th February 2026. After we had dinner at about 6pm today, we received another notice that the replacement flight had yet again delayed to 7pm on 20th February 2026.
The pilot also mentioned that there will be AirAsia ground staff to assist and facilitate us with arrangements but when we disembarked the aircraft, we were inform that there were no AirAsia ground staff at Sendai Airport – they were only at Shin-Chitose Airport.
When I tried to find someone to clarify my doubts and questions regarding the situation, nobody could answer my questions.
I estimate more than 200 people affected by this flight, majority of which could not speak Japanese. Sendai is not considered a major tourist city like Tokyo, so almost all Japanese people here are not able to speak any other languages other than Japanese.
Luckily I am able to speak a bit of Japanese, but I cannot imagine how it would be for the elderly and young children on that flight and how they would be able to book an accommodation for tonight.
We have not been notified regarding reimbursement of extra costs due to this situation and missed tours that we have pre-booked. Due to not being able to check in to our accommodation in Sapporo today, we have also wasted tonight’s accommodation costs in Sapporo. We are also not sure whether the flight will actually fly tomorrow, and if it gets delayed again, we may have nowhere to stay at all.
The point of this post is to bring awareness and ask AirAsia to take responsibility. I used AirAsia’s AI chat bot ‘Bo’ to clarify my doubts, but it was unable to do anything due to not being connected to a live agent.
Please share until AirAsia decides to take responsibility for this situation.
Sharing the above mentioned from a group of passengers of the flight— with AirAsia Rewards and Fly AirAsia.
Next, it is the report from Thread by https://www.threads.com/@reen_8288/post/DU7ibMnlXkp
“Utk traveller wajib beli travel insurance…. Air Asia Cancelled flight Hokkaido to Malaysia. Kena sidai, kena halau X boleh bmlm d airport. XDA pampasan d beri.. sapa2 pun mmg marah tau”
