Secret Garden Chinese Restaurant 家園私房菜 Taman SEA

Secret Garden Chinese Restaurant 家園私房菜 is one of the latest restaurants in Taman Sea Petaling Jaya. Opened just a few weeks ago, what is interesting about this restaurant is they are serving Taiwanese cuisine. There are many restaurants are selling Taiwanese snacks but Secret Garden offers Taiwanese food with localised flavours.

secret garden

This beautiful restaurant is located at 7 & 9, Jalan SS 23/15, Taman Sea. It is hard to miss with its huge signboard and they open for lunches and dinners.

secret garden interior

They do spent efforts in decorating the restaurant. There are sections of mural painting, fine art illustration and a small unique garden within the restaurant. It is fully air-conditioned and it is spacious. Another thing we like about this restaurant is arrangement of the tables and chairs. It is not so cramped so it is really comfortable dining in this restaurant.

So what do we have for dinner?

secret garden prawn crackers
Crispy fried prawn crackers

The crispy fried prawn crackers come with real prawn filling in between of thin layer of pastry. The skin is crispy while the prawn filling is well seasoned and tasty. It goes well with the chilli sauce and this is the appetizer of our dinner feast. This is rather unique than our usual prawn crackers.

secret garden soup
Home style Taiwanese chicken soup with pickled pineapple and bitter melon

Home style Taiwanese chicken soup with pickled pineapple and bitter melon is another unique dish of the evening. The soup comes with slight sweet bitter taste thanks to the bitter melon but overall the taste is light and refreshing. The pickled pineapple brings some sweetness into the soup with the base of the chicken soup. Something different than other has to offer.

secret garden chicken
Steamed free range duckweed fed chicken with homemade sauce

The interesting part of this dish is they are using duckweed fed chicken. Not your usual farm chicken from markets or supermarkets. Their version of steamed free range duckweed fed chicken comes with homemade sauce. Never a big fan of steamed chicken but you can taste the juiciness of the chicken from the first bite.

secret garden tong po
Signature Taiwanese “dong po” pork belly

My family loves ‘dong po’ pork belly. Their Signature Taiwanese “dong po” pork belly is one of the best we tasted. Instead of serving a huge big piece of pork belly, they cut it and tied it before they cooked it so each and every single mini ‘dong po’ is intact with its original shape. It just their technique of cooking the pork belly. Taste wise, we love the balance of fat and meat in their pork belly. The taste of the sauce is pretty good and this goes well with their homemade mantou. Their mantou is soft and fluffy and we are definitely sure the children will love it. Another thing we like about this restaurant is they like to make their own food from scratch then getting it sourced from somewhere else.

secret garden fish head
Grouper fish head in yellow curry with fresh milk

This is a huge pot with grouper fish head in yellow curry with fresh milk. It comes with generous amount of the grouper fish head and also the vegetables. The yellow curry is not that thick and the taste of the curry is mild. This goes well with white rice.

secret garden prawns
Pan fried fresh king prawn with soya sauce

This is definitely highlight of the evening. The pan fried fresh king prawn with soya sauce is tasty and addictive. We had three pieces of this XXL king prawn. The prawns are coated with the savoury thick soya sauce sauce and what we enjoyed most is the freshness and the juiciness of the prawns. Will definitely come back just for this.

secret garden tofu
Homemade organic black soya bean tofu in pumpkin gravy

We were told that they have the soy bean grinding machine in their kitchen and yes this is another one of their homemade dishes. Homemade organic black soya bean tofu in pumpkin gravy is one of the stars of the evening. Their homemade organic black soya bean tofu is flawless and it goes well with their sweet pumpkin gravy. Again, this goes well with white rice and the children will love this.

secret garden chives
Stir Fried Garlic Chives with Minced Pork

For the vegetable dish, stir fried garlic chives with minced pork is something different than the usual menu. The imported chives they use taste better than our local ones and the taste is good.

secret garden fried rice
Pork Belly Fried Rice with XO Sauce

The night is still young so we ordered the pork belly fried rice with XO sauce. This huge plate of fried rice comes with generous portion of sinful slices of pork belly. A big fan of fried rice, this is something you should order.

secret garden dessert
Herbal Jelly with Wild Honey

We ended the feast with their version of herbal jelly with wild honey. Something light to end our dinner.

secret garden sturgeon

In general, we are impressed with the ambiance, food as well as the service of this restaurant. Like we mentioned earlier, this is one of the few Taiwanese cuisine restaurants in Klang Valley. We enjoyed their effort to homemade most of their food and with the freshest and best ingredients. The food prices are reasonable (PJ pricing) and this is one restaurant you can visit. Please do comment if you have some feedbacks on this restaurant.
