A Malaysian Travel & Food Experience Unveiled Across Asia!
Yesterday, I am the lucky few who went to Ibunda, a Malay Fine Dining restaurant for the preview of Asian Food Channel’s new flick, Discover Perak with Xandria Ooi featuring Chef Julie Song of Indulgence Ipoh.
Malaysian food aficionados will be excited to know that the Asian Food Channel will be premiering Discover Perak, on Monday 22 August at 8pm!
Ibunda, Malay Fine Dining Restaurant
There is no better place to preview the new Perak inspired series than the fine dining restaurant, Ibunda. I have tasted one of the best “beef rendang” there with some of Chef Julie’s dishes. Ibunda is located at Jalan Bukit Bintang, opposite Prince Court Hospital.

This exclusive regional premiere of the new Malaysian travelogue series features Malaysia’s beautiful and charismatic host, Xandria Ooi, as she goes on a gastronomic search for great food and unique specialties and exciting activities in the state of Perak in Malaysia.

Follow Xandria and her long-time friend and award-winning chef, Julie Song, as they travel around Perak, Malaysia, allowing viewers to experience the majestic landscape in a whole new light while searching for tantilising food and fun activities. On their journey, both ladies will learn more about the amazing traditional cuisine Perak has to offer, as well as interact with extraordinary local characters that will add a little spice to the show.

I watched the preview (Discover Perak Episode 2: Taiping) and I must say I enjoyed it. Xandria is very lively in the show and she is very “wacky” (if that is the right word to describe her). Discover Perak is not just another typical “food hunthing” show, but also a travel show that promotes tourism in Perak. I thought I know Taiping well, but after watching the episode, I must say there are more than meets the eye.
Mr. Aminudin Hashim from IDR
The production of Discover Perak received the fullest support by the State Government via Institut Darul Ridzuan (IDR), the brainchild of YAB Dato’ Seri DiRaja Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, the present Menteri Besar of Perak. The establishment of IDR, as the think-tank to the Perak State Government helps to realise the potential and generate greater awareness for the state of Perak, as well as to accomplish the objective of the “Perak Vision” – to become a developed state of Malaysia with the vision of Perak Aman jaya, a vision that promotes sustainable peace & prosperity.
Breaking fast at Ibunda
I spoke to Mr. Aminudin Hashim from IDR and I must admit that there are more about Perak yet to be discovered. Mr. Aminudin is a Perak state walking dictionary as his knowledge and his vast experience about Perak is unbelievable. We had a lengthy chat about Belum Rainforest and a few more tourist spots which are unpopular with locals. It seems to be we could have another adventure in Perak, if time permits.
I enjoyed the evening and thanks again Asian Food Channel and Alice George Communications for the invite. I loved the food at Ibunda and thanks for the romantic candle light dinner experience there! Discover Perak will be an entertaining and fun series that should not be missed!

Darn, I was supposed to attend this but my dad’s car got snatched, so we hv to pick up the kid from school instead 🙁 I have yet to catch an episode yet, hopefully I would be able to.
