Heun Kee Claypot Chicken Rice in Pudu
When you talk about famous claypot chicken rice, people always refer to Huen Kee Claypot Chicken Rice in Pudu. Is Huen Kee claypot chicken rice that good? I went there to find out.
There are a few variations of claypot chicken rice but the traditional is the plain rice with chicen cooked in claypot and topped with spring onions and sprinkled with dark sauce. To enhance the flavour, add on salted fish. Some comes with sliced sausages too.
It is not hard to find Huen Kee claypot chicken rice in Pudu. It is just beside the Pudu roundabout and below the Jalan Tun Razak flyover. Parking could be an issue though.
There are half a dozen of claypots cooking with hot burning charcoals. Food is cook with traditional method of charcoal tends to taste better. Same goes to Heun Kee.
Be there early or else you have to wait for seats and it will take some time. You will definitely meet the owner herself, the lady boss Huen Kee. She is a cheerful person and no customers will be neglected under her view.
I ordered the claypot chicken rice for two and add on the salted fish. The food looks gorgeously. Many claypot chicken rice tend to overcook and burns the rice but Huen Kee’s version is perfectly cooked. Chicken is well seasoned and topped it with the salted fish, it is scrumptious claypot chicken rice that you will ask for more. It will be a matter of time for me to go there for their claypot chicken rice again.
