Intercontinental Hotel Tao Chinese Cuisine Debuts Handmade Mooncake Delicacies
The Mid Autumn Festival is less than one month away and it is the time of the year for mooncakes. I might not been going around the restaurants in the city to review mooncakes but I did visit the award winning Tao Chinese Cuisine of Intercontinental Hotel Kuala Lumpur recently for their mooncake collection.
This year, the restaurant raises the bar as the purveyor of the perennial delicacies; striking blends of flavour from modern infusion of fresh fruits to traditional ingredients, encased in golden baked skin or crystal snowskin. Each piece has been carefully handcrafted by Dim Sum Chef Lo Tian Sion famed for his delicate skills and innovative creations. Their exquisite mooncake collection available from 20 July to 8 September priced at RM20+ per piece onwards.
Tao Chinese Cuisine repertoire of classic baked mooncakes starts from RM24+ per piece and include best seller White Lotus Paste with Single Egg Yolk (單黃白蓮蓉月餅); White Lotus Paste with Double Egg Yolks (雙黃白蓮蓉月餅); Pure White Lotus Paste with Nuts (欖仁白蓮蓉月餅); Assorted Nut Paste with Chicken Ham (鳳凰伍仁蓉月餅) and new enticing flavours enriched with local touch such as sweet and fragrant pandan paste complemented by nutty richness from the Almond Skin with Pandan Paste and Single Yolk (雪山翡翠單黃月餅); and Black Sesame Paste and Assorted Seeds (黑芝麻果仁月餅) with an aromatic and stronger flavour profile. Those with a penchant for traditional baked mooncake, the Glory of Moon Collection (風光齊月)priced at RM118+ comes with new choices of White Lotus Paste with Single Egg Yolk, Pure White Lotus Paste with Nuts, Almond Skin with Pandan Paste and Single Yolk and Black Sesame Paste, and Assorted Seeds packed in a mesmerising cherry blossom wooden box.
The snowskin collection is a refreshing series of colourful delights with a punch of modern infusion. Encased in beautiful crystal like exterior, mix and match from the eight variants starting from RM20+ per piece with choices of Mini Snow Skin with Pandan Paste with Single Yolk (迷你冰皮班蘭單黃月餅); Mini Beet Root Snow Skin with Red Date Paste and Egg Cream (迷你鴛鴦冰皮熟地紅棗奶皇月餅); Mini Peanut Butter Snow Skin with Salted Bean Paste, Rice Crunch and Pistachio (迷你冰皮花生豆蓉米糠果仁月餅); Mini Blueberry Snow Skin with Kiwi Bean Paste and Dried Mix Fruits (迷你鴛鴦冰皮藍莓奇異果干月餅); Mini Dark Chocolate Snow Skin with White Chocolate Paste and Nut (迷你巧克力冰皮豆仁白巧克力月餅); Mini Green Tea Paste with Single Egg Yolk (迷你冰皮綠茶單黃月餅); Mini Snow Skin Durian Moon Cake (迷你冰皮麥香榴槤月餅); Mini Snow Skin with Ginseng Mixed Nuts Paste and Bird’s Nest (迷你冰皮人參果仁燕窩月餅). Tingle the tastebuds with a unique experience as the Blossom of Autumn Collection (春花秋月) priced at RM198+ features eight exotic flavours of each snowskin variety in a beautiful box.
The beauty of handmake mooncakes is there are not many preservatives unlike the factory made ones. Thus, handmake mooncakes will not last that long so you know there are fresh.
Guest will also have the opportunity to share their favourites from Tao Chinese Cuisine packaged as premium gifts for friends and family. A Tao Chinese Cuisine original, The Elixir of Love Collection (花好月圓) priced at RM180+ per box comes with two of Tao’s signatures, the Homemade Spicy Sun-dried Scallop Sauce (洲際自製極品醬) and special blend of Tao Black Tea (金芽“桃”紅茶).
