This is one of the most unique places in Thailand. We often hear hot springs in Taiwan and Japan but there is also hot spring in Thailand too. The place is called Ranong, a small town bordering Myanmar and it is blessed with many natural hot springs.
One of the natural hot springs I visited is Raksawarin Hot Spring. It has been recently renovated and the public hot spring is free of charge.
The town’s natural hot spring has become a popular tourist attraction since King Rama V visited Ranong in 1890.
At Raksawarin Hot Spring, the water temperature is all hot and steadily at 65 degree Celsius. Thus, it is believed that the location has one of the purest hot springs without sulphur contamination and visitors can drink directly at the hot spring (if you don’t mind others presence in the pool).
Since it has been renovated, there are bathing facilities for visitors. When I visited the hot spring, it was free.
The Raksawarin Hot Spring is beautifully built and maintained and it is very clean. You can find many tourists in this hot spring and the water is really hot. Please don’t jump it first and do test the water temperature first.
Expect to spend at least an hour here and bring your own towel, clothes and water.
The best way to reach to Ranong is to self drive from the border or from Phuket or Surat Thani. It will take a few hours journey from either Phuket or Surat Thani. It is fun, easy and safe to self drive in Thailand.
