We blogged about Kansai International Airport is flooded and closed a few days ago. We read a few Malaysians were stranded and trapped in the airport and the airport is still not open. This morning, a Magnitude 6.7 earthquake hits Hokkaido at 3 am local time. There were after shocks after the earthquake. There are blackouts in certain areas in Hokkaido, no tsunami, there are landslides and the JR bullet train (Shinkansen) are not operational at the moment until further notice.

If you are in Hokkaido, just be safe and if you are planning to visit the island, do understand that there will be disruptions on the train service. If you plan to self drive on the island, do take note that there are landslides and cave-in reported on some roads in Hokkaido.

We just went to Hokkaido this May for the Sakura season so it is saddened to hear such news this morning. As we mentioned in our Hokkaido stories, we do have plans to revisit this beautiful island in the future as we want to experience the different season.

Please do share this information with your family and friends who are planning to Hokkaido soon so they are well informed of the situation. For those who are planning to travel to Japan, always keep in touch with your loved ones and do we get a portable wifi or SIM card in case of emergency.
