One Chun Phuket City Michelin Restaurant Review
One Chun Restaurant is one of the most popular Thai restaurants in Phuket City. The owner is the relative of Raya Thai restaurant and they serve similar food but with slightly different taste. One Chun is listed as Bib Gourmand by The Michelin Guide Thailand 2019.
One Chun is the one of the 15 restaurants and street food we reviewed listed in Michelin Guide Thailand 2019. This is our fifteenth restaurant review and there will are planning to visit Bangkok by this year end for more similar stories. You can check out the full list of restaurants in our special dedicated page at https://www.placesandfoods.com/themichelinguidethailand
We visited the restaurant for the first time four years ago and this is our second visit to the restaurant. The restaurant didn’t change much in terms of its design and the food here is still good.
The restaurant is in the Sino Thai building and they redesigned it to look new and Instagrammable. You can tell from the photos and they have many vintage things you can take photo in this restaurant. If you are looking for a place for OOTD, One Chun is one of the few places you can visit in Phuket City.
We ordered three dishes and they are Pad Thai, Crab Meat with Coconut Curry and Steamed Pork with Pepper and Garlic (Phuket Style). The crab meat with coconut curry and steamed pork with pepper and garlic is the signature and we ordered their Pad Thai as we wanted to eat the noodles instead of rice.
Let’s start with the crab meat with coconut curry. If you followed and read all my Phuket and Phang Nga Michelin Guide reviews, you will find this a common local dish in this part of Thailand.
It is important to know that you can request less spicy taste for the coconut curry if you can’t handle hot and spicy food.
Fresh crab meat cooked with coconut curry and complement with white noodles. What is important is the freshness of the crab meat and the thickness and flavour of the coconut curry. The texture of the coconut curry is creamy (thanks to the coconut milk) while the taste is spicy. You have to eat the crab with the white noodles together with coconut curry and you get the perfect combination.
Their version of Steamed Pork with Pepper and Garlic is slighty different than you have in other restaurants. They called it steamed pork and we called it braised pork. The texture is soft and fat and the taste is flavourful with hints of spiciness from the pepper. This is good to complement with rice or noodles.
Their Pad Thai with prawns are good. We love the taste of the noodles and we love to put more nuts for the extra crunchy texture. You can also add more fish sauce for flavouring but this is good for us.
Overall, the food in One Chun Restaurant is good. The food prices here are reasonable and cheaper than Raya. However, we do feel some food in Raya is better but it all depends on personal preferences. If you ask me to choose in between Raya and One Chun, we will recommend both as they have strength in some of their food in terms of taste. One Chun is highly recommended to visit if you are traveling to Phuket City.
How do we travel around in Phuket? The best way to travel around Phuket and Phang Nga is by renting a car. There are many car rentals in Phuket International Airport and we usually book Thai Rent A Car as it is one of the largest car rental companies in Thailand. They have over 32 branches with over 8000 cars in their fleet.
Where do we stay in Phuket town? We stayed in Ibis Styles Phuket and it is located in the middle of the town. Check out their rates with Agoda at https://www.agoda.com/ibis-styles-phuket-city/hotel/phuket-th.html?cid=1538606
One Chun opens from 10 am to 10 pm daily and this concludes our reviews of 15 food places listed at The Michelin Guide Thailand 2019 in Phuket and Phang Nga. Stay tuned as we are planning to venture other cities in Thailand for future reviews.
