Penang Char Kuey Teow Restoran Shangri-la Brickfield

The first time we visited this Penang char kuey teow is more than 20 years ago. It was located in the coffee shop (now turned to Old Town White Coffee) before they relocated to the current Restoran Shangri-la Brickfield. The Restoran Shangri-la Brickfield is located opposite of YMCA Brickfield and you can find the popular Pisang Goreng stall, the Nyonya Heritage stall and the Peter’s Pork Noodles.

We went to Brickfield for brunch today as we have not visited the area for some time. Parked at YMCA Brickfield, crossed the road and manage to get a table and Rachel spotted the Penang Char Kuey Teow uncle and we ordered the char kuey teow.

Since the old restaurant was taken over by Old Town White coffee, some of the old stalls were relocated to other places and we managed to find the 30 year old char Penang kuey teow stall at Restoran Shangri-la Brickfield.

A small plate of char kuey teow is RM 7 while the big size is RM 8. Let’s check out their version of Penang Char Kuey Teow.

The Penang Char Kuey teow comes with prawns, sliced ‘lap cheong’ (Chinese sausages), pork lard, siham (cockles), egg, chili paste, beansprout and spring onion. You can tell from the picture, the kuey teow is stir fried to perfection with ‘wok hei’ (intense heat). This Penang Char Kuey Teow is delicious as the flavour is right and we enjoy the crunchy texture of the beansprout. This is so good we ordered another one for take away.
