Yi Pin Ramen EkoCheras Mall Cheras
If you are looking for a simple and nice food in EkoCheras Mall in Cheras, you can check out Yi Pin Ramen at the top floor. We visited this Yi Pin Ramen EkoCheras Mall Cheras twice before we decided to post this review.
Yi Pin means ‘the best’ in Chinese and Yi Pin Ramen simply means the best ramen. Yi Pin Ramen offers broth taste towards Chinese style even though they do offer Japanese style broth. If you are a ramen lover, you should know the difference between the both and Japanese broth usually comes with stronger taste.
Their ramen is handmade and they offer many different types of broth including Sichuan soup, Mala soup, beef broth, Zhong Hua Chinese recipe with herbs and spices, blue chicken broth soup. Miso broth soup. Shoyu broth soup, Shoyu broth soup and Tonkotsu pork broth. If you are interested to know more about the Blue ramen, keep on reading.
Let us start with their snacks first before we move on to their ramen. We ordered the Japanese Deep Fried Chicken cutlet and Chicken in Signature Mala Chili Sauce.
This is not the chicken karaage and their Japanese Deep Fried Chicken Cutlet comes with crispy outer layer with tender chicken fillet. This compliments well to any other the ramen in their menu.
We are not a huge fan of mala chili sauce but this leaves a very good impression. The chicken thigh comes with the spicy mala chili sauce and this is flavourful and yet delicious. We enjoyed the spiciness of the mala chili sauce and this is a must order. It is good on its own or with the ramen.
Now, let’s talk about their main dishes, the ramen. We tasted some of their signature ramen which include the Blue Ramen, Tonkotsu Ramen, Handmade Ramen with Sichuan Soup and Dumplings.
We asked the owner why blue ramen and he told us that he got the inspiration of the blue ramen from Japan. They created the blue ramen using local ingredients with chicken broth. The natural blue colour is not from butterfly pea but from the natural color of spirulina. The blue ramen comes with two piece of their homemade charsiew, egg and seaweed.
Their version of charsiew is similar to Japanese ramen style charsiew. The broth comes with a subtle taste of chicken similar to clear chicken broth. You can hardly taste the spirulina to be honest and you want a ramen with subtle chicken broth, you should order this.
The tonkotsu ramen comes with corn, spring onion, two pieces of Japanese style char siew, egg, seaweed and black fungus. You can’t complain with the handmade ramen with al dente texture.
The pork broth is flavourful but it is not as strong as Japanese tonkotsu pork broth. If you are a Japanese ramen lover, you will feel this missing the umami but to be honest, this is pretty good overall.
This version of handmade ramen comes with the spicy soup and meat dumplings. They uses the same handmade ramen, corn, spring onion, black fungus with the Sichuan soup. If you like spicy and stronger taste, this is the one you should order and they have another ramen with spicy Mala chili sauce.
The meat dumplings is nothing spectacular but it is won’t disappoint you for sure. Each bites are filled with juicy pork filling with the spicy sauce that will enticed you.
Yi Pin Ramen at EkoCheras Mall Cheras opens from 11 am to 9 pm daily. Overall, we loved their ramen and like we mentioned earlier, if you prefer mild taste of the broth like Chinese type broth, you will definitely enjoy their ramen. If you like strong or thick broth flavor, you might find their broth lacking that ‘umami’ taste. The chicken in Signature mala chili sauce is something that we will highly recommend and for ramen, the Tonkotsu Ramen is highly recommended. If you want something cool to show on your Instagram, you can order their Blue Ramen.
Yi Pin Ramen has opened for over one year at EkoCheras Mall Cheras and they are still going strong with their loyal customers. If you are in EkoCheras Mall, you can visit them for some good homemade ramen.
