Restoran Siaw Kwee Kajang Pepper Soup

There are many pepper soup restaurants in Kajang especially in Sungai Chua. The most popular ones include Restoran Siaw Jia (formerly Siaw Kah), Restoran Kee Vee, Restoran Siaw Kee and more (yet to be explore). We are not sure why pepper soup is so popular in Kajang (after satay) but this is one of the must have food in this town.

Restoran Siaw Kwee is located at the corner lot of 273 Jalan Berjaya 8 & 274, Jalan Berjaya 9, Taman Berjaya, Sungai Chua. You will probably spotted a few restaurants with similar name of Restoran Siaw Jia and Restoran Siaw Kok Leong as we were told they are formed the same family. From one restaurant, they branched out to three and which one offers the best pepper soup? Honestly, we are not sure as well.

We were there for dinner, ordered four dishes including their signature Pepper soup, sweet and sour pork, steamed fish and spicy pork belly with dried shrimp.

The pepper soup comes in the claypot and it comes with pork belly, pork intestines and pork ear. The soup is strong with pepper taste and this goes well with the rice. The pork belly and the other pork parts are well cooked.

If you tasted Singapore’s version of Bakuteh, this pepper soup taste slightly stronger than that. We just wonder did they just copied this pepper soup as their version of bakuteh.

Claypot Salted Fish with Pork Belly

If you planning to visit Restoran Siaw Kwee, this isClaypot Salted Fish with Pork Belly is a must order. What we like about this is the balanced taste and the tender texture of the pork belly. Overall this is spot on and when it is served in the claypot, you can smell the aroma of the pork and the salted fish. Remember to mix everything together to combine the flavours and this goes well with the rice.

We stayed nearby for this couple of years and we only been to three restaurants for Kajang Pepper Soup and thus we are not big fans of pepper soup. We know people traveled to Kajang for the pepper soup but it is not our cup of tea. This does not mean that the pepper soup is not tasty but it is just our personal preferences.
