Westin Desaru Coast Resort Ramadan Buffet GANDINGAN CITARASA AIR TANGAN CHEF ADU

This is something good to share if you are planning to visit Desaru Johor. The Westin Desaru Coast Resort announces a collaboration dinner on this holy month with restauranteur and MasterChef Malaysia Judge, Chef Adu Amran. From 3 April to 2 May 2022, the resort will play host to the guest chef at their Gandingan Citarasa Air Tangan Cef Adu dinner buffet.

We were staying at Westin Desaru Coast Resort and manage to check the Ramadan Buffet GANDINGAN CITARASA AIR TANGAN CHEF ADU on their first day. To be honest, this is not the usual Ramadan Buffet you can get at hotels in Kuala Lumpur as I will explain more to it.

The Westin Desaru Coast Resort Ramadan Buffet GANDINGAN CITARASA AIR TANGAN CHEF ADU is served at the Desaru Coast Conference Centre, located within a 5-minute walk from the resort, the ballroom is adorned in an elaborate Kampung-esque fashion. The foyer area of the conference centre will be bedecked with stalls and live stations resembling a food bazaar serving Malaysia’s favourites. Available from 3 April to 2 May, The Westin Desaru Coast Resort’s Gandingan Citarasa Air Tangan Chef Adu Ramadan dinner buffet is priced at MYR148+/person.

Who is Chef Adu?

Known as one of Malaysia's most accomplished chefs with an impressive resume under his belt and a Johor native, Chef Adu actually began his career as a dancer. Looking for a career change, he pursued an adventurous journey towards the culinary arts starting with learning to cook for himself and his friends with recipes from his family. He then enrolled in Stamford College, Kuala Lumpur in Culinaire and Kitchen Management and opened is first restaurant in Langkawi, called Champor-Champor Restaurant in 1994.

Now, with nearly 30 years of experience in the business and having worked and opened a restaurant in London, his Champor-Champor Restaurant, London Bridge was recommended and listed in the UK Food Guide, the UK Michelin Guide and Zagat’s Special Gold Edition Best Restaurants in the World. It was also AA-Rosettes rated for 9 years and was awarded accolades including the Winner of Restaurant Magazine’s Best Dishes Awards 2007 in the Best Curry Division.

Chef Adu has also ventured in the restaurant business in his home country, Malaysia. He is an author and have published cookbooks, Ikan Di Laut, Asam Di Darat and Ke Mana Tumpahnya Kuah which is also the winner of the 2018 Anugerah Buku Negara in the Buku Umum Terbaik (Kulinari) category. He is currently operating a restaurant in Bangsar named, Adu Sugar.

Ayam Ros Chef Adu

No stranger to the cameras, Chef Adu was a guest judge in Season 1 of MasterChef Malaysia, then became a permanent judge for Season 2. He was also a judge for Season 1 & 2 of MasterChef Selebrity Malaysia, as well as MasterChef Malaysia All Stars. He was featured in a list of other TV shows on Astro, TV3, NTV7 and more! Finally, also a designer for his own brand, he created Aduh! by Adu - a fashion line featuring exclusive Traditional Menswear, Women’s Hijab, and a Unisex collection designed by him using high quality imported material from all over the world.

Kari Kambing

With his flair for local delicacies and timeless Johorian favourites, Chef Adu will be presenting his take on some of Johor’s most coveted dishes including the Laksa Johor, Nasi Minyak Pengantin, Mee Bandung Maharani, Ikan Assam Pedas Chef Adu,

Ayam Ros, Pechel Jawa Cef Adu, Pajeri Mangga Muda, Telur Pindang and more alongside the resort’s selection of curated local and international dishes led by Executive Chef, Adrian Jackson.

Nasi minyak

Guests and diners alike will delight in a myriad of selections presented at the Gandingan  Citarasa Air Tangan Cef Adu dinner buffet spread that evokes nostalgia of dining with family and loved ones at home. The dinner buffet will include different sections featuring a Chef Adu Specialty corner exclusively serving his signature dishes & appetizers, complemented by the resort’s stalls offering Sup Gearbox, Aneka Sate, Kambing Golek, Ulam-ulaman Desa, Bubur Lambuk Ayam, Rendang Sapi Ala Minang and more.

At the Ramadan buffet dinner, I was lucky enough to meet Chef Adu. He is a very humble and knowledgeable chef and we chatted for over 20 minutes on Johor food.

Roast Lamb and Satay

The uniqueness of Westin Desaru Coast Resort Ramadan Buffet GANDINGAN CITARASA AIR TANGAN CHEF ADU is his signature Johor food that you cannot find in Kuala Lumpur. Two of his signature Johor dishes include Laksa Johor and Mee Bandung Maharani.

Johor Laksa

The Johor Laksa is rather unique. Instead of the usual laksa, it comes with thick gravy made of ‘Ikan parang, Ikan Kurau’ and Prawn flesh. According to Chef Adu, Johorians eat this with hands and hence the gravy is thick with noodles. The Johor Laksa comes with the fragrant of spices and gravy that will offers you something different than the usual laksa.

Mee Bandung

Mee Bandung Maharani also slightly different than the usual mee bandung. It comes with lots of flavours if you pick all the ingredients. This is a must try.

The boys love the desserts especially the ‘ice cream potong’ and there are dozens of local and Western desserts to choose from. For kids, there are Kids Corner and they will enjoy all the colourful snacks and sweets from there.

Guests and diners who makes reservations to book their slots from 3 – 31 March will be entitled to enjoy a special Early Bird price of MYR120+/person. Prior reservations are required.
