Asam Pedas Claypot Restoran Kota Laksamana Melaka

This is our first time posting about Asam Pedas of Melaka and we went to this famous restaurant in Kota Laksamana. “Asam Pedas” is a popular Malay dish known for its spicy and sour flavours. It typically consists of fish or other seafood cooked in a tamarind-based broth with various spices and herbs. There are quite a number of restaurants offering Asam Pedas and one of them is Asam Pedas Claypot Restoran Kota Laksamana Melaka.

Asam Pedas Claypot Restoran Kota Laksamana Melaka is located at 86, Jalan Laksamana 5, Taman Kota Laksamana. They occupied the outdoor parking area from 6 pm till late.

The restaurant was quite busy when we were there and the service is quite fast to be honest. We sat down, they gave us the menu, took the order and the food was served within 15 minutes.

Their signature dishes are Asam Pedas Claypot with few types of fish. We ordered the Asam Pedas Claypot Ikan Pari (Sting Ray) Set for RM 13.

We also ordered Roti Cheese, Nasi Ayam and tried their Otak-Otak.

Let’s start with the Otak-otak (RM 1.20 each). Surprisingly, the meat is red in colour and the taste is just normal, not even spicy. We still prefer Muar’s otak otak.

Roti Cheese is good. Well spread of cheese within the roti with fish curry.

Nasi Ayam is typical roast chicken type with lots of gravy. Overall, we find the taste of this nasi ayam decent. Chicken is tender, rice is well cooked but nothing particularly spectacular, decent plate of nasi ayam.

The Asam Pedas Claypot comes with rice, vegetable, salted egg, sambal and the asam pedas claypot with fish.

The fish is huge and it is very fresh. The asam pedas is not as sourish as ‘Chinese version’, it is flavourful and spiciness was just right. If you want more spiciness, you can have it with the sambal.

Having the asam pedas sting ray in claypot makes it more flavourful and this is highly recommended. We love that huge piece of sting ray!

For first timer dining at Asam Pedas Claypot Restoran Kota Laksamana Melaka, the food is better than expected. The food prices are very reasonable compare to Klang Valley.
