It’s a sad day for foodies and lovers of Melaka’s vibrant street food scene. The iconic Jalan Bunga Raya Oyster Omelette (Oh Chien) stall, a beloved institution that has graced the streets of Melaka for almost a century, has officially shut its doors. For generations, the sizzling sounds and aromatic wafts from this humble stall were an unmistakable part of the Jalan Bunga Raya. My father and my late grandma is from Melaka and my grandma always tell us stories that there was time that income tax people sitting down counting how many plates they sell in a day.
My dad will always queue to buy a few packets of oyster omelette if he is in Melaka. Locals and tourists alike would brave the queues, eager to get their hands on a plate of their legendary oyster omelette.
This is traditional oyster omelette style, the texture is soft, fragrant with hints of garlic and oyster. This is not the super starchy or the super crispy type of oyster omelette so it has a ‘balance’ texture. The highlight is the ‘wok hei’ and the taste of the omelette overall.

Luckily, I managed to order some oyster omelette during my trip to Melaka during Chinese New Year. I was 15 minutes after the opening of the stall and I had to wait 90 minutes for my order.
My boys loved it! Sadly, that is the last time we had the iconic oyster omelette. The Jalan Bunga Raya Oyster Omelette stall will be deeply missed. It leaves behind a void in the hearts (and stomachs) of many, and its absence will undoubtedly be felt on the bustling streets of Melaka.
