Vientiane Credit Card Problem
This is my 2nd time to Vientiane and I had the same credit card problem. I remember that it happened to me the same thing in 2017 and it happened to me in 2025.
Most Malaysian credit cards will not work in Vientiane Laos except you make a call to the bank to make sure they know you are in Laos.
I tried to save up my cash in Vientiane the other day so I decided to use my Malaysian credit card for a fast food chain but it got declined. I was informed that there is 5% bank charge but it didn’t work anyways. It happened to me and my cousin’s credit card and immediately I recall the same problem in 2017.
After crossing border to Thailand, I tried using the same credit card and I have no problems at all. This Vientiane and credit card problem is still happening in 2025. It is troublesome but it is a great effort for Malaysian banks to make sure our credit cards are safe in a way. Hope you understand this issue when you are traveling to Vientiane or any parts of Laos.
