The Best Gelato in Australia, Messina The Star
It is voted as the best gelato in Australia by the good food guide. Since 2002 in Darlinghurst Surry Hills, Messina brings joy to the people in the form of gelato. They want to set the benchmark as the top gelato in the country. It sounds ambitious? Nope, it’s a fact!
Two more outlets later, one at The Star and the other at Bondi, Messina still dazzles with its daily specials and out of the world gelato. At the Star, many prefer to have a cup or a cone of Messina gelato before entering a casino. It might sound ridiculous but the crowd presence does not lie.
It might looks like a warehouse sale or a garage sale but only gelato is available. A scoop starts from $4.30, you get a many flavours to choose from. Check out their daily special and also their unique flavours.
Instead of the usual gelato in tubs, they stacked it up like hills of gelatos. I prefer to let the taste of the gelato do the talking.
I order pistachio, caramel and chocolate. In general, the gelato is smooth and creamy. They have beautiful texture and I really enjoy the taste of it. For example the pistachio, most gelatos out there has this distinctive scent of pistachio but Messina’s taste like the real pistachio. The chocolate is thick and addictive while the caramel is tailor made for caramel lovers.
Best gelato in Australia or not, they definitely impress you at the first taste. Thus, the texture and the taste of their gelato are superior from the many out there. If they set their gelato as the benchmark, the rest will have lots of catch up to do.
