Ippudo Ramen The Gardens Kuala Lumpur

A few years ago, it is hard to find Japanese ramen specialty restaurants in Malaysia. You can get ramen in many sushi restaurants but the quality and the taste of their ramen is not there. Recently, there have been a few Japanese ramen specialty restaurants entering Malaysia and Hakata Ippudo is one of them.

Originated from Fukuoka, Ippudo has outlets in New York, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, Taiwan, Australia, China and lately Malaysia. It is highly regarded for its ramen and its pork based broth. They started off with their flagship restaurant at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur and it was an instant success. The restaurant is often packed during lunch and dinner hours and it is no surprise when Ippudo decided to open their second outlet at The Gardens.

When it comes to a bowl of succulent ramen, it always goes down to two main ingredients, the ramen noodle and the broth. At Ippudo, you can choose the texture of your ramen from soft to very hard and I always prefer the hard one.

For the broth, Ippudo uses tonkotsu (pork) broth. With their secret recipe, they cooked their broth for more than 15 hours and extract only the essence. That’s why each bowl of Ippudo ramen is so fragrant thanks to their tonkotsu broth.

Shiromaru Motoaji Special

I ordered their signature Shiromaru Motoaji Special. It is Ippudo’s original tonkotsu broth served with ultra thin noodles, pork loin, beansprouts, kikurage and spring onions. This is a classic Hakata style ramen. The special comes with salted soft-boiled egg and the seaweed.

This is definitely one of the best ramen in town. The broth is thick and flavourful and the ramen is cooked to perfection. I loved their pork loin and also the seaweed. This is the perfect explanation for the long queues outside of each and every outlet of Ippudo in Kuala Lumpur.

If you want an extra “kick” to your bowl of ramen, try compliments it with fresh garlic. It might sound weird but you can try it with no regrets. After having the ramen, I decided to order a few side dishes.

Ippudo offer a wide range of side dishes. From salad to rice and hot plate, there are twenty of them to choose from.
