Where to shop cheap in Tokyo?
Can shopping in Tokyo cheap? If there even a place you can shop cheap in Tokyo? Well, Tokyo was one of the most expensive cities to live in many years ago. Now, they are not even in the top 10 list. We all know Daiso and many other 100-300 Yen shops offer really good deals but seriously, is there a place to shop cheap in Tokyo? The answer is yes and the place is Ameya Yokocho in Ueno.
Ameya Yokocho is a shopping street in Ueno. It feels like a shopping market similar to our markets in Malaysia or Singapore. You can see everything on sale like night market or ‘pasar malam’. Seriously, the things here are cheap.
You can find many things here including gadgets, fashion, sports wear, shoes and food. These are out of season stock and the food are near to expiry so things here are cheap.
We got recommended here by a tour guide friend who is currently staying in Japan. He assured us the things that sold in Ameya Yokocho are originals.
We bought a few Japan football national team jerseys at the fraction of the original price. Thus, you can many sports wear on bargain price too. If your Japanese is good, you can try bargain with them if you purchase a lot of items.
The food here is cheap too but sadly we didn’t take pictures of them. You can find many popular snacks such as Kit Kat (in variety of flavours) and other Japanese snacks at very reasonable prices.
We thought we never had a chance to shop in Tokyo until we discover Ameya Yokocho in Ueno. This is a must visit place and most of them only takes cash (no credit cards).
Ameya Yokocho in Ueno is the true hidden gem of Tokyo. Want to buy souvenir on your last day in Tokyo, this is the place you should visit!
