Hotel Equatorial Penang is one of the few five star hotels that is located near the Penang Airport and it also next to the golf course. Thus, it is also near the Setia SPICE convention center. Sadly, the hotel industry is badly hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. This not just in Malaysia but around the world, hotels around the world now are struggling by the impact of COVID-19 pandemic.
Based on the internal circular, General Manager Alan Ong stated that despite huge losses by the company, the hotel will pay severance benefits to all the employees of the hotel.
It is really sad to know that Hotel Equatorial Penang is closing. If you check on their google reviews, they are 4.4 / 5.0 based on 2.6k reviews! We enjoyed our stay there and we explored this part of Penang. They also offer Kampachi Japanese restaurant in the hotel and the food are tasty. We hope there could be a comeback in the future after this COVID-19.
It s a shame that another hotel has been devoured by the pandemic.
